Bought the pulley on Friday and was delivered interstate within 3 days.I had some difficulty in sliding the old pulley off as it was slightly rusted (compressor still on the car) I stared to lever the pulley from behind with a shifter but broke the outer edge so I then used a screw driver and levered it off using the housing of the compressor and the inner part of the pulley. Success. I did find some old serpentine belt strips tucked in this area where one had shredded in the past. The new one went straight on and the compressor works just fine. I will take it to be serviced next week as the engine does not idle up nor does the radiator fan come on. cheers

A bit of WD40 in the bearing surface before you try levering it. But with a new one at hand it doesn't matter if you damage the old one. Fit new one with a bit of bearing fit to take up any wear on the compressor housing 👍

Update 17/04/2022 ,had the compressor checked shortly after installing and it checked out fine.Six months later and a bearing noise has appeared under the bonnet. Using a funnel and hose for pinpointing the faulty bearing it turned out to be the hicks bearing in this a/c pulley .So now I have to wait until after or Easter to see if it can be replaced or not.

Can I replace the aircon pulley Kit on a 2015 VW 2.0 Amarok, without removing the pump and draining the gas? I've heard it's pressurized?! So I'm a bit scared to do a DYI if the gas might come out.... Lol Seems so easy in this video. Almost like I can do it while it's still connected to the engine. Otherwise I have to have it done by a aircon specialist company. And they charge and arm and a leg.

Great video mate, I have a question, There is an irregular knocking noise in my Amarok for the first 10 minutes on cold mornings, I took the fan belt off and the knocking is gone. The pulleys have a tiny little play in them, Slightly more so in the a/c one, Do you think that's the culprit? Is it normal for them to have a tiny bit of movement side to side? Thanks from Ireland.

Hi Iasone, the 2.0lt can sometimes have a small knock when cold & they do generally come from pulleys until they warm up a bit & the metal expands to take up play. With the AC pulley they usually don’t have very much play in them so if it has a bit of movement the bearing might be on its way out. AC pulleys are cheap so probably not a bad idea to change it. The other main ones to keep an eye on is the tensioner pivot which is the main cause of belt failures, if it running slightly out of alignment it’s best to change it ASAP. The other that can create noises is the idler pulley.

Sometimes even pulley and new bearing on, has a little bit of movement wich come from the free play between the inner bearing race and the aluminium housing where the bearing fit, understand? Even if the aluminium housing with no wear and new bearing, I think it's normal in that condition.

Hey Net4x4, Your kit looks great but I wondering if it would help me.... I had this happen on my 2012 2.0lt Amarok. A/C stopped working. I was told by my VW 'Specialist' that the compressor was broken and needed a new one. We went for the aftermarket Jayair product which seems to have a good reputation. The A/C wasn't as cold as expected. Approx 1 week after repair it did the same thing. The vehicle has done 250k. Been around Aus a few times. Towed heaps of stuff. What would cause this to happen again? Desiccant need changing? Right before it went it was making a noise....the A/C got really cold (As I expected the temp to actually be) then cold air stopped. Any ideas would be helpful.

Did they change the receiver dryer (filter) and regas it correctly? Otherwise it may have an internal blockage from too much moisture in system

What's it mean if where you put the 7mm socket on keeps spinning while trying to undo the outer nut

The socket is not engaging the shaft nut

G'day Mate, I've been told I have to replace my whole unit or metal will contaminate the system. Is this a possibility or am I being taken for a ride? I have a high pitched squealing under engine load. aircon still works, just loud squealing.
@Net-4x46 жыл бұрын
If the air con still works then that most likely won’t be the cause of the squealing noise that you are hearing. When you have ac pulley problems the ac will stop working. Generally a belt squeal comes from a pulley being out of alignment. The likely culprit will the tensioner pulley, it runs out of alignment due to the tensioner pivot wearing. Check the tensioner to see if it looks like it is not running true, if it’s not replace it as it more than often leads to a belt failure. It’s an easy job to replace & a new tensioner from VW or myself is a bit over $100.

Can you change the bearing in the pulley?
@Net-4x4 Жыл бұрын
Hi There, In theory, you could press the bearing out of the pulley and find a replacement at a bearing supplier, however the pulley is worth about $70, so if you weigh up the time it would take to remove, source and replace the bearing, you'd probably break even by replacing the pulley

Je déconseille ce vendeur. I ordered this kit a few days ago. Then I received an email asking me for additional shipping costs. I refused and asked for a refund since the seller no longer responds
