Glad this video was served to me. I have an engine in this exact same situtaion in my garage right now. Partially disassembled and left out in the elements. Jugs seized to the pistons.

Nice video; the only thing I would’ve done differently is not using a screwdriver to split the case. That can marr the sealing surfaces. Like Mike Fn said above, JB Weld can be used to repair the corroded area at the sump plate. Also, new studs can be installed there with Loctite and will work appropriately. Looks like it had been in contact with the ground for quite sometime. Fortunately now new magnesium alloy blocks are being manufactured in Brazil by Motorav; an OEM VW supplier.

I have a bus with a drain plate corrosion fixed it with J and B weld (not the quick one) and it has been fine for 5 years.

If I know that I'm not going to use the jugs and pistons again . I will cut the jugs down along the sides carefully not to cut the block. And if the engine will turn a little you can turn the jug out of the block so you can cut further down the jug.then I take a big flat screw driver and spread the jug to relieve the sticking add some penetrating oil works every time for me

Purchase an air chisel hammer and a set of drifts. The energy you are imparting with the hammer is not doing its intended job. The big end of the rod and crank are being effected . You make a wrist pin tool to pull the pins rather than beating them. Threaded rod is your friend

It hasn’t been the line bored for new bearings for the crank
