The backbone is looking pretty good. Not often one sees the chassis of a bug stripped down to that extent! Good to see your old enthusiasm and energy returning Gary. (Used the mineral spirits trick myself: really works!)

Indeed it is, some minor repairs and we’ll be moving forward. Still trying to push myself to be like the old me, energy is still low 🤷♂️ Hind sight, mineral spirits will dissolve oil base paints and petroleum products…. No reason why it wouldn’t work on the tar boards. Have a great rest of the week my friend.

Jacket, long pants, and shoes! I was feeling sorry for you scraping the tunnel until you got out the toys. Now that's fun! Super Clean is a hero. The residue left on my bus roof after they tore off the insulation comes right off when SC is sprayed on it. I hate to wait a week to see the fuel line video. Still no puppy footage. This is a fun project and thanks for bringing us along.

Good day in the garage Gary, a little rust repair here and there and you will be set, once you stripped it down didn't look to darn bad, to bad about the fuel line, but i think you are better off in the long run replacing it, that way it won't come back to haunt you later, see you on the next one

Great Job! If that was my project I would definitley inspect and or beef up the bracket that holds the clutch tube inside the tunnel. I generally use a large hole saw on the passenger side about where the emergency brake hole is down on the passenger side but back a bit. You may be able to see it from the emergency brake hole. The bracket in question is welded to the clutch tube and the gas line tube is right there as well. I don't even weld the blank back in the tunnel. Just a thought. I've had my bracket brake on 3 different cars and it allows the clutch tube to move which in turn changes your clutch adjustment. Even a stalk clutch will where this out. A kennedy pressure plate will just make it happen sooner.

@@VWJawbreaker No judgement here. Just a conversation. I was going to say I chose not to remove the tar board from the tunnel, but most people get rid of it. Mine was in really good condition and there was no rot inside or out of the tunnel including underneath. I did debate for a while whether or not to remove it. The thing was I couldn't find a good reason. Also, I felt like VW put it there for a reason. So, I left it. I see why you took yours off but it seems others don't have a good reason. At least they don't say why. I came to the conclusion that if it ain't broke........ This is one of those things I've always been curious about. I mean it gets covered back up with carpet so what if it's unattractive. Thank you for your time Gary. I truly appreciate it. Also, I like how you reply to the comments. It's one way to show you care. It doesn't go unnoticed. Take it easy. ✌ P.S. I'm interested in seeing your solution for the fuel line.

@@flat4ification well I do think some take it off for the “pretty” factor after everything is painted…. But like you pointed out, then they go and put something else down and put carpet down. Makes no sense to me either. I try to leave things alone that don’t need to be touched, same thought process as yours. I knew there was some rot behind mine so that’s why I pulled it off. Everyone has a different way of doing things and you’re right, most don’t explain why they do what they do. I try to be as transparent as possible as I don’t have a hidden agenda. Would a heat gun have helped remove the tunnel cover? Or were you just having some fun flexing with your pneumatic toys? LOL!
@VWJawbreaker2 жыл бұрын
Heat gin would probably make it worse since it’s tar based…. Best thing to use on the floors to remove that is dry ice and a scraper. Dry ice wouldn’t work well on that curved surface so a cold day and a chisel did the trick.
