Thanks Slade, nice step by step visual instructions, slow and careful just what a lot of us part timers and retired old folk like me need. Keep up this series, my appetite is whetted. Also please consider using the original Throttle positioner and Altitude corrector. That makes a nice addition to a period correct Bug build restoration. Keep up the good work.

I am surprised how well your upper braided fuel line looked when you pulled it off the tank. Mine upper braided lines were so dry rotted they broke as soon as I touched them the first time. The tank looks in good condition despite the fact it needs to be cleaned which is natural from sitting.... I need to replace for about $200 on my 74 super beetle. I have a charcoal canister on my 74 super beetle on the rear passenger side. Great video!!!!
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I was actually surprised that the braided lines were still soft and manageable. They look original, I don’t believe they were replaced. I cleaned my super beetle tank out. I believe there’s a video on my channel here. They’re very expensive, of course I’m cheap to though. 😁 I didn’t use my charcoal canister, mine was completely shot. I’ve vented it just like the old school ones. I mentioned it in the video on my super beetle video. Here’s the video here. Honestly most of my stuff will relate to your super beetle. Unless it’s the front suspension of course. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJnEl5VnZt-JmZI

My 71 had the charcoal canister. I vented my new tank the old school way. I couldn’t get a VDO sender. I wound up using the China knockoff. The extra loop of gas line makes things easier. I replaced the front fire wall and frame head.Also a front clip from the spare tire well forward. It’s a lot of work but the end result was worth it. Looking forward to your next vid.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 3 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly, it’s easier to vent it the old-school way, the charcoal canisters are no longer available. I seen a few guys restore their charcoal canisters. But I kind of got lazy about that on my last project. 😁 Wow, you definitely did a lot of work. I admire that, especially the frame head. Unfortunately, a lot of the knock off stuff is garbage. The good days are gone for getting good parts. Unless we find used German. Thank you so much for being here, and thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

i doubt the fuel tank would go boom if that venting hose is not connected , as you can see if its not connected it will vent anyway just not out the bottom of the car , chances are though you will smell petrol in the cabin as it wont be venting to a clear place as for it going BOOM not at all likely

I dont know if I installed it improperly or what because the fuel gauge would only register 1/2 full whether the tank was full or low. I assume I must be touching one of the tank baffles. Anyways I ordered a new sender from Germany slightly different design. Im being told from some ppl that I should install the sender at the 6:00 position and rotate clockwise to about the 10:00.
