Great video. Good tutorial on restoring the tank. I really like the train sound in the background and your windchimes. They are so relaxing. "Ladybug" could be Misty's last name. LOL. Poor Chevy. The seat backs fold forward for access to the back seat. My parents had a 49 Chevy when I was born. Rust in peace Old Girl

Thanks! Wasnt going to paint the outside but after more thinking aboit it it really needed it to save it for a long time. Glad i did paint outside in the end. Chevy is about 100ft or more off thr road. Went to run out downtown and I did a double-take because I couldn't believe it was sitting right off of her a yard pretty cool to see sitting there . Kind of eerie sitting under a willow tree

Looks like a 1949 Chevy coupe. She's a goner now, though. VW Tank looks good, and the ladybug is a stylish optional touch. Not many bugs have bug options in their tanks. . You did good with that one. Some won't hold anything without major repairs. She'll be crankin' soon. Regards, Solomon

E-man Deluxe I’m going to do it for sure. I was considering trying to put something in my metal gas line , the one that goes from front to back. Then blow air through with my compressor? Just not sure if it’s a good idea or not? The car itself sat for 14 years. The gas tank came out of a parts car that was on the road about a year ago. @@SladesVWBeetle I would try blowing compressed air through the fuel line. I think that's the best thing to do. The gas tank, clean with denatured alcohol. Then seal it to be sure.✌

E-man Deluxe The tank looks clean. It was used in a running car about a year ago. But I figure while I have things apart a good cleaning never hurts. Maybe I’ll just blow air through the steel line then. I don’t want to damage it. Since it’s inside the tunnel. I wanted to use a chemical in it. Especially since it has been dry for 12 years, not sure if a rust film created inside the line or not. But also nervous about what to use in it , and make things worse

@@SladesVWBeetle you would be safe with denatured alcohol. Dribble some down from both ends. Let it sit and blow it out. Check where the lines come out of the frame for any rot. Mine was shot and I had to replace the fuel line. Was about the most difficult project I've done on the car. There are easier ways of replacing it then the way I did it. Good luck man

i usually just gwt a gallon of fuel in there and shake it with a chain inside pour it out fish out the chain and run it. But Maybe in the east the rust proofer would be better. IDK. Sometimes if it is rusty I will use auto trans oil and the same.

Yeah. I've had rusty fuel tanks in the past, so just being cautious. Worked great

Hello again kevin... Sorry i forgot to mention what i used. I was looking into the POR 15 tank sealer kit but to me it seemed like there were too many steps involved and honestly the product I used had much better results, its called red-kote from damon industries. You may consider taking that "radio" and at least remove the tubes. Some of them are getting really hard to find these days and could be worth some money. Nice tank project all the same. Thumbs Up!

Great video! Refinishing mine on my 67 Ghia. Does the acetone remove all of the rust? I’ve been using vinegar and it still leaves some surface rust. Also what procedure did you follow for the outside of the tank?

Right on man👏. 67 ghia, that's sick... I would say whatever product you go with to seal the tank, follow the manufacturer's directions... you can't go wrong. Hope it goes smooth. I have another ahead of me right now for my bus. ✌🥺

The cover of the fuel sending unit for the gas gage? It just pops off with a flat blade screwdriver

I don't believe your tank is free of rust now, if you watch similar YOU TUBE videos you need several steeps before the acetone and red liquid to assure a good rust elimination, just think the years ago when this tank was fabricated.
