Very good video, with all it's simplicity, just fabulous; I have a 74 Karmann Ghia and I had just finished doing my brakes front disks and rear drums, I went inside the car, grabbed the parking brake lever, pressed the center button to release the lever and POW out came the pawl rod along with it's spring; just like you said, it freaked me out thinking MAJOR PROBLEM, after carefully studying the parking brake lever assembly I found one of the wires had 5 washers and a home made nut with epoxy holding it in place, the other wire had the rounded nut facing out, not towards the balance plate, I immediately ordered new wires also an emergency brake rebuild kit; VW's and brakes have a notorious background which can be changed by MAKING SURE, ABSOLUTELY SURE you're VW brakes are up to par, including the emergency brake system, the parts are not expensive; DRIVE SAFE!!

You are a life saver. I also had to replace my shift bushing last month on my 73 Super Beetle and found your video for that as well. That video really saved me a trip to the shop and helped me get my project rolling smoothly. Thank you so much for uploading this I am gearing up to do this since I discovered my one handbrake cable is looking really frayed and tired.

Awesome video definitely appreciate! I have a 1974 vw super beetle with the same issues in the wheels (rusted lug nuts) and no e brake... with your help I’ll be able to fix that problem

Thanks! I'm from the states and wondering what the two little arms are on either side of the brake. Can you enlighten me? We don't have them here that I've encountered.

Rad Banion hi, if you mean the lever either side of the park brake lever they are for the heaters. All 67 and newer beetles have them but many people remove the heaters over the years so the levers may often be missing.
