Be sure to grease all cables as you install them!

There is usually an over abundance of grease in the tubes, note how greasy your original cables were and grease accordingly.

Thank you for all that you are doing, it is helping a ton. I do have one question. Is there a resource that goes over tearing down the chassis? A source that goes over what you should replace when restoring, how to clean/paint, what to look for, etc.

I'm not aware of any one "HERE'S THE BIBLE" source on any one aspect of really any part of a restoration. Gather all the information you can from as many sources as possible. When you hear the same things more than a couple of times, chances are that's what you should be doing. There are so many "experts" when it comes to VWs as everyone that has done a valve adjustment on one thinks they know it all. Like everything in life, take it all with a grain of salt.

On the heater cables; seeing bow the lever is on the right side ( ie making it closer to the right heter box) wouldn't the longer wire go threw the top tube for the left heater box seeing how it's further away ?

They install just as we described, that is the way VW routed them. The offset from left to right on the tunnel is negligible.

Also. I've looked and looked on jbugs and I can't find the plastic spacers. Where can I get those ?
@Sam_Mebane
@Sam_Mebane 2 жыл бұрын
We used our original spacers. If yours are missing you can usually get plastic washers at a local hardware store.

where can i see the other end of the cable connections that control the interior grills they were left dangling out of the tubes. I understand the heater box connections with the passenger side cables - need some help at the driver side cables at the opposite end of the lever - thanks

We install the left side cables first, starting at about 3:05.

Do you have any plans to sell the heater levers and related hardware in the future? Appears you currently only carry the replacement knobs?
@Sam_Mebane

If we could source a manufacturer for them, absolutely.

Does Jbugs sell the plastic spacer installed at 3:34 If not, where's a good place to look?
@Sam_Mebane

No, it's just a plastic washer. Most hardware stores will offer something that could be used.

Thanks for the tips to assemble the levers. Went under the car - found the two broken cables. With some baling wire I rigged the levers in the open position - yes car became toasty. Now a few questions as I wait for some parts to arrive. 1974 beetle 1. Is there two tubes and two cables? Or does the cable have two ends and share a tube?. 2. I have the two levers in the cockpit (yellow knobs) which I removed and cant recall which side (driver / passenger side) does what? 3. I had a small grill on the floor by driver / passenger foot area - do these grills also get cabled? 4. At the rear seat kick panels (left & right) there is a hole - in it is a butterfly flap that allows heat into the rear foot area - use my finger to fix open/closed. A. One of the flaps is missing - can I purchase? - what’s the part called? B. Are these supposed to be controlled somehow? Thanks again for the videos. Really helping me - been driving around town - fun.

For the heater boxes specifically there are two tubes, with one "V" cable, the bottom of the "V" being the point that connects to the lever in the car. The right side lever controls the heater boxes. The passenger floor vents are controlled by the left lever, inside the tunnel there are two tubes for the one "V" cable which controls the vents.

Is it safe to remove the heater control cables from the car if you don’t plan on using them?
@Sam_Mebane

Absolutely, there is no harm in removing them.
