In my young years I was heavily into VW's, working with icons like Phil Reusche, Dick Cepek and Mickey Thompson. So far you are doing a great job on this project! If I may give you a few suggestions to consider they would be: 1. Consider putting in a fuel gauge (I regretted not doing it, several times)......lol 2, Good idea on the intake oil heater (I can't tell you how much of a problem we had with icing even in Baja). 3. Try to keep your gearing "dead on" the engines power curve. You will thank me for this one! 4. Line the interior of your car with a stick on insulation sound deadener (a little expensive but worth every penny).

He actually put some sound deadening mat down in the back and we were talking about doing more. Thanks for the suggestions. -Merri

Thanks for the update. My VW camper van was a 65’ it was 6 volt . First year of 12 volt was 66’ , it had a fuel gauge. This was back in the 70’s hope my memory is correct.

Hi, it’s called the “Wander Bug” 😁

1962 was the first year for gas gauges. I had a 1960 Baja Bug with a dowel stick in the trunk. Nothing like running out of gas in rush hour traffic. The LA County Fairplex hot rod swap meet has a whole separate VW section for parts. Toss that phart muffler and use a conventional type muffler made for a Baja bug. You can thank me later. Money pit.

Good stuff! Couple comments: windshield washer, Western Stars have the nozzles mounted on the wiper blades, to spray ahead of the wiper (may be an option); cab heat: heard the Co-Op branded Dueutz farm tractors ( air cooled diesels sold in Canada) had a cab heater off engine oil (another oil cooler inside for cold weather?)

You can adjust the wiper washer squirter. Just take a small pick and stick in the outlets and move them around

I thought about the cheap stereo system but decided for the same money I could get a Bluetooth speaker that sounds great for the same money; and you can take it with you wherever you go. PS: I’ve had the same one for 15 years, been in a 67 Bonnie and 53 Chevy pickup, still works like new with 12 hour charge life.

Use a rehostat knob for the wipers for variable speeds.

You know you can upgrade the wiper motor to a 12v motor or do the 67’ wiper motor
