VW Bus Renovation Story

Amazing job you have done in bringing the beautiful bus back to life. I personally am glad it did not get an electric motor. The sound of the original motors on VW's is a classic signature in their living character. Thanks a lot for sharing the process of your dream to completion.

thank goodness it was registered as 75 & didn't need a smog cert - the exhaust wasn't very nice at all. much better to be electric. starting on the next 1 soon, which will be electric - subscribe for updates

Well done. I have had a number of Type 2's and have rebuilt a number of them. I really like you own mod's . The water system is amazing . I understand about sitting in the stripped down bus thinking" what have I gotten myself into" been there, done that, But the thrill of working everything out, seeing it come together, can'r be explained. the gas motor was a compromise as I'd intended to put an electric motor in, but they were not available due to covid shutdowns in Italy. It's a 78 2 liter square port, hydraulic lifters, twin duel choke carbs, - actually quite peppy for a bus. I fortunately got it registered a '75 so I didn't have to deal with smog certs. All work done in San Fernando valley, engine came from San Marcos area.

I have a 1975 westfalia that i'm restoring and DEFINITELY want to add the swivel seat, like you did... thank you for the inspiration, and please reply in comments if you can! :)

the swivel was already in the van but it had a partition behind the seat - so I cut the partition out & swiveled away happily. My dog likes it because when I brake hard, he doesn't slide onto the floor under the dash!

@@placesyoullgo9484 My parents bought a brand new T2 with Westfalia conversion in 1973. We still own the car and was completely restored about ten years ago. One thing our mechanics noted was that on models with the walk-through partition, the girders are reinforced. Did you put in some reinforcements in place after chopping the partition? Your bidirectional kitchen drawers are genius! Enjoy your trips..

the swivel was already in the van, BUT, there was nowhere to swivel to - very strange - so I cut the partition out so I could turn the seat to face backwards. Most Westys have swivels. search on samba.com to see if anyone is selling parts. email me at [e-mail] - we can meet up & swap ideas
