I used to own a 1964 VW double door panel van back in 1982. Bought it from a wrecker in Sydney along with a 1962 kombi for parts. Paid $500 for both. Wish they were as cheap today. The double door I had came from Northern Territory and was an ex airport unit so it had 2it windows in the roof above the front driver and passenger. It had very little rust at the time. Only needed to weld the top of the dogleg channel where the rubber door seal goes in. Mechanically it was sound only missing the rotor button from the distributor. My father and I stripped down the original motor that was in it expecting to replace pistons, rings, bearings, You know what it's like but no didn't have to do anything like that just reassemble. All was well except for 2 things. First was I put the distributor in 180 degrees the wrong way. Instead of tak8ng the distributor out again I just swapped the leads. Second was I over tightened the oil pressure switch and broke part of the casing which had the threads. Mixed some araldite and all was well again. I was surprised that it didn't leak oil from the switch.

Hi Nick, oh I love it! You really only have to do the well-known parts (enough, of course). nice project! If only I were as fast as you 😮😂

If its anything like the Krank , this'll be a good one to watch while you make the magic happen....and probably more practical at the end of the day 😂😂... As a guess , I'm thinking Santa might be delivering presents in her ?

How to fill low spots on your lawn. Get the blaster out on a windy day. Good luck with the rust repairs, I could see some you weren't pointing out so you're gonna be busy.

I made my own rotisserie with round hoops and it works really well. The one you have there well and truly outclasses mine though, "very nice". Be sure to show us how they ducted those cooling vents!

G'day Mr Nick, A nice project. A 64 panel double door. I'm doing a 67 split single door. Q. Will you be putting in the side windows as per picture. So thanks for sharing I'm looking forward to seeing this one evolve. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne/Pakenham. 3810.
@Demop_VW_garage22 күн бұрын
Cheers mate, yes to the windows going in😉

@Demop_VW_garage Hey Mr Nick. I'm thinking of doing the same to my 67 panel. Is there a chance you could drop me a pm on where your buying the panels to do the window conversion. And if possible how much your spending. ✌️ Peace

Pretty exciting! I live next to the ocean and if I sandblast anything I need it to get it into primer right away. What is your procedure? Do you just spray phosphoric acid on it or are you going to spray etch primer or epoxy? Looking forward to this project!
@Demop_VW_garage22 күн бұрын
Acid then epoxy primer, mind you the wifes oval is raw steel with acid for over a year with no rust yet.

I see standard armrest brackets in the rear. Were they added or was it originally a standard? I couldn't tell if the inner window frames had been removed. Nice condition. Just the normal stuff to fix.
@Demop_VW_garage22 күн бұрын
Yeh the brackets were fitted to all, then used if needed. It was an og panel van from factory. Just wait till next weeks episode thats were I need your help 😂😳

Rough guess how many buses and Vw's went to Australia?
@garyjones540622 күн бұрын
G'day Kaptain ...no idea of the number to be honest but growing up here in the 60s and 70s there was very little alternative to a kombi for a delivery van in Australia , so I'm guessing VW sold plenty of units during that time and today there are stacks of modern VW's on our roads ...a nice alternative to Asian vehicles ....but there has always been a stigma attached to European cars re their reliability down here , maybe justly so 😉
@Demop_VW_garage22 күн бұрын
Yeh no idea but heaps 😉
