This video captures my favorite components of this project all in one.
The simple engineering of an early VW front axle, easy enough for anyone to restore and durable for decades, along with my my favorite editing style that captures the story of the restoration without anything extra. This project took months to complete, hundreds of video clips, weeks of editing and a few really important lessons along the way (lesson #1 I need a shop press).
Shoutout to POR15 for supplying the paint for this project!
Thanks for watching!
Brandon

Without a hydraulic press with pass thru holes can use long threaded rod/bolt, washers and nut to compress bearing selves into position. Steering wheel puller works in a pinch. Thanks great content!👍

I just love watching this project come together. The affection you have for this little tank is evident. Now, as a fellow "Give your beard it's own real estate" adherent, do you find Purple Stuff effective for red-grease removal? If so, does it's high alkalinity nature melt your whiskers? How about Dawn dish detergent, better? I just brush it through, then distribute that which collects on the brush throughout the rest of my beard as a pungent malodorous balm. 😆 I truly look forward to your videos, thank you so much for sharing your journey.

The other day the wire wheel took about 10% of my beard out. 😩 wasn’t a pleasant experience. Maybe I’ll get a beard net for the garage? I only clean it with shampoo and conditioner so as not to damage the hairs, and then brush it out with some beard oil.

@@BrandonsBus I've been using Honest Amish lately. I like it. Sorry to hear of your bout with the wire wheel (shiver).

It is always been shocking to me how cheaply made, and junkie these vehicles were, yet there are still millions of them on the road, and they don’t seem to fall apart… Like ever. Nicely done.

I'm following along with each episode and loving the content. I also own a Brazilian split, and I'm wondering... are the front axle assemblies different compared to the German splits or are the parts interchangeable?
@BrandonsBus

Thanks for following along! The only difference I’ve noticed is the shock mount post on the lower control arm is a different diameter,other than that it looks identical.

If I do a Subaru swap I’ll definitely upgrade to the disc. If it’s a stock engine the drums work just fine… sometimes…

You definably took your front beam to the next level. Question, who welded on the brake booster plate? Are you going to put another booster in?
@BrandonsBus
@BrandonsBus 9 ай бұрын
I’m hoping to upgrade the brakes to accommodate for more power, so I’ll have to look over that soon. There’s a few sketchy welds from the previous owner.
@SkaterStimm

@@BrandonsBus Honestly the booster is a solid update even with all drum brakes, I would say that it even beats a disc brake setup without a brake booster. I have upgraded all my buses to have a booster and the stopping power is nice.

So happy to see some progress. The next time you have to deep clean like that. Pick up some Carbon Off. it’s industrial oven cleaner. You could have sprayed it down with it and waited about 20 minutes and pressure washed everything off. I’m sure it’s cancerous but use gloves and a respirator. It’s like magic. 10 times better than aviation paint remover.
