Great video sir! My wife's 2013.5 VW Turbo 2.0TSI just started throwing up the P2279 code this last week. I'vev not gotten to diagnose the problem yet but I will definitely try some of these tips. Thanks a ton!

It hurts to learn that a mechanic talked me into an engine swap when it really was an air leak. That's wild.
@excelsiorautoservices2 жыл бұрын
I am not shocked sadly. Hopefully the engine swap was really warranted and the mechanic didn't get one over on you!

A 10 minute fix vs a $250 diagnostic fee and probably $500 more for inflated dealer markup.
@excelsiorautoservices Жыл бұрын
This is roughly $200 at the dealership.
@malikbonnicksen55105 ай бұрын
Total noob question, but does this apply to all VW cars? I have a Fox from 2005 which gives me the 2279 error code now. When I accelerate I can clearly hear a whistle from the engine room.
@malikbonnicksen55105 ай бұрын
And basically it idles a bit rough but not nearly as much as the one in the video. But the EPC light turns on mid drive and it goes limp and it usually seems like it's when I'm going at a steady pace and not accelerating.

It should be the same premise but the part may look a bit different.

I replaced that, the map sensor, and throttle body but still get that code and random missfire codes. Smoked tested it and don't see any leaks

Same , did u find the issue
@Jaguarspaw5 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it would only run rough towards the beginning of cold start. Took a sample of fuel at first start up and tested the fuel it had a red tint to it. I guess that would settle after sitting for a while and at first start up it would run rough.
@pleasereadthe_fineprint Жыл бұрын
Nice, thanks for commenting. I replaced the PVC cover, was about to do the map sensor because I had the p0106 code as well, but also misfiring codes. Just got the car and it had sat for a gooood while prior to buying it. Would have never thought old fuel [edit - cold starts every time too]

Hey man thanks for sharing your knowledge. My jetta mk5 had the same error code P2279, I changed the same PCV valve but the error code is still active and it keeps giving faults. Could you give me an idea where the air leak might be? Do you think it could be the catalyst? The intake manifold rubber seals are in good shape and there is no apparent breakage. How could you do a more accurate test to find out where the leak is coming from? Thanks for your reply in advance!
@excelsiorautoservices3 жыл бұрын
The best way to test for leaks is a smoke test with a smoke machine. Not everyone has a smoke machine and the good machines are pricey. Another test is pretty simple but it can be dangerous if you are not careful and for liability purposes I am not going to post how to do it here. Google "finding a vacuum leak with brake clean or starting fluid."

Aside from the pvc it more than likely is the map sensor. If you are having this cel code change the map sensor and it will fix your issue. I will begin posting videos shortly so that you don’t get your eyes gouged by mechanics.
@excelsiorautoservices3 жыл бұрын
The Map sensor is an entirely different code and will likely throw a P0106 or P2433. The reason for this video is to show people how to diagnose, properly, the P2279 issue and the most common fix.
@tonyramirez27603 жыл бұрын
People if you are having this issue. You can easily purchase a map sensor on Amazon and it is an easy install. I’m telling you all from my own experience with this cel code. I understand he’s showing you how to diagnose it and his info/knowledge is appreciated but if nothing else worked for you, give replacing the map sensor a try.

I have this code, as well as a p0106 - I replaced the PCV valve already. MAp sensor now?
