swapped out the pcv in my 2010 audi a5. turned on the engine and it ran just fine. the following day took it out for a drive and it suffered massive misfires with a check engine light, and as i was driving i thought: did not torque the bolts enough? damage a connector? was planning on removing the coil and plugs and reinstall them. opened the hood and the breather hose from the intake manifold to the pcv had popped out! i had failed to fully engage the hose to the pcv with the "latch snaps" (dont know the proper lingo). so properly secured the hose and all good. let my experience be your wisdom.

Thanks for your input! Same thing happened to me 🤦♂️ the breather hose on the PCV would not clip in properly, the breather hose was to big. Turns out I had to buy the breather pipe with it as it was just expanding over time. Also after I clipped it back I could feel my idle was not smooth. The O-ring in the breather pipe was gone, if it fell out or was sucked in I dont know, but it is also something to look out for :)

Hi Dennis, to be Honest it is a good Practice to have changed it aswell. But I wont say it is really necessary (thats on my vehicle though). In between video shots I do spend some time and look everything through clearly and make some judgements decisions. The oil that is found in the lines are not contaminated oil that is streaming through there in big numbers. It is rather small and fairly clean. Even by the touch of it you can wipe the oil off, what I am trying to say is that it is not a place for oil to clunk up and bloke your hoses :) but because of the internet I am going to say not suppose to Clunk up 🤣👌

Glad I could help 🙌 To be honnest the design is not so full proof to me. @Matan222222211 ай бұрын
I uploaded a video of 13 sec which shows the pcv valve without the plastic part between the rubber diaphragm and the spring at the head of the pcv. Weird sounds completely gone and the suction at the oil cup decreased a lot. Seems like the plastic that separate the rubber and the spring is too thick and doesn't provide a good seal. Do you think this "mod" is safe?
@megalodononwheels11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I have no idea, I went to go look at the vidro, actually commented on my gaming acc 🤣 forgot I was signed in on that acc. But it seems like it solved your problem, when you hold your hand over the oil cap once its removed, does it blow air out? You don't want the opposite where instead of sucking you are now blowing tones of air out... There should be a slight blow and suck, blow and suck. But engine shouldn't shake 👌
@Matan222222211 ай бұрын
I managed to fix the problem by opening the PCV "head" cap and removing the plastic that seperates the diaphragm rubber and the spring. No more excessive suction in the oil cap and no strange suction or whistling noise from the PCV. My thought is that the plastic that seperates the rubber diaphragm and the spring is too thick and therefore can't provide a good seal. Another reason could be that the spring is too short to provide the right tension to perform a good seal. So it's a combination of things that may produce this problem. For now, it's fixed. I'm not sure that this "mod" is the correct thing to do from a car manufactur perspective, but it's working. I will check the oil cap with the test you suggested. When I remove the oil cap, there is no suction but the idle changes quickly. I'll perform the test as fast as I can and close the cap again. I'll let you know about the results@@megalodononwheels

I was hoping someone would have replied to you already lol as I dont think a bad PCV will cause a missfire only on CYL 1 and 3. Usually it just gives a bad idle and a lean code. Quick question. So you dropped some oil onto the valve's? That should not make any difference at all. Your oil might be topped up a bit more 🤣 I think there might be something you did not do right. Usually if there is a vacuum leak then I would cause something like that. Maybe the pipe that goes fron the PCV to the Intake lost its O-Ring or you did not bolt it down properly. That is the only few things I can think about. I suggest doing everything over and inspect all the piping and look for tears in it and etc.

I think the best will be to Diagnose it and see what it says, if its lean it might be the PCV. Ohhhhhhh that is a vacuum leak from one of the hoses at the back... You will need to remove the hose and rub gasket maker around it and in the pipe then place it back in. Not the right way to do it but I did do this right after the video and it feels like it was 2-3 years ago and even forgotten about it. If you do replace the parts the right way you have to change the hose and the vacuum pump, super expensive so I went the easy rout and seems to work excellent. :) I hope this helps a bit and thank you for the comment 😊

Never had any problems. But its just the fact that I think its a4 coils and not R8 coils
@BrokenPortriats10 ай бұрын
The old PVC systems simply relieved crankcase pressure and burned off this vaper by feeding it into the intake. This system is actually creating a vacuum in the crankcase even at idle. Even when working as designed, this system can increase the vaporizing of very hot oil. Use only the very highest quaility oils and change at shorter intervals. This new type system is everywhere on turboed engines. Burning oil increases polluting hydrocarbons, lowers octane value of fuel (this can push the engine into preignition knocking), clog engine up with carbon buildup, damage crank seals, and run engines right out of oil and kill the engine beyond simple repair. Engines were just lasting to long anyway.
@megalodononwheels10 ай бұрын
Thanks for this in depth comment. I also learned a few things now. Never knew it can drop the octane and end up with knock. These A4 cars are very knock limited. Even the stock file is knocking left and right 🙆♂️ I would like to go for a PCV delete once and for all. But not just block it off but send it to a catch can 👌
@briantii10 ай бұрын
I don’t think the GOAL is for the crankcase to be under vacuum. That’s the sure sign that this valve has failed and that vacuum causes problems with the seals in the engine.

Because I changed my PCV as you saw in the hope of helping to reduce the oil consumption but no luck :( the problem with our engines is the Piston "oil" rings, so you are thinking now... But my compression is fine? Unfortunately your compression has nothing to do with the oil rings 😭 if they are bad then you will notice your car is burning oil. Best advice is to save up money like I did and buy a forge piston set with the oil ring problem that is sorted (upcoming videos 🥳), changing your oil rings won't fix the long term problem and your car will burn oil again after 50 - 100k km

Hey I’ve an 2013 audi A6 C7 2.0t it shows me warning “turn off engine check oil level” when the oil level is OK and the warning comes and go do i have to change the pcv valve?
@megalodononwheels Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry to respond to your comment so late... As far as my knowledge go. The PCV won't help. PCV stands for positive crankcase valve. It works with the pressure at the bottom of the block that can be high because of Blow by and a few other reasons. And not the oil pressure. For the low oil pressure it can be your cam bridge maybe as they intend to fail alot or a oil pump that is going bad. Please do let me know if you found something, I will be interested to know aswell :)

Did you also have an oil leak before replacing the PCV? I just put an original pcv on my car. it did stop oil leak issue but right after getting a new PCV installed It gave me check engine light code p2187 which is lean condition. You think I might have a defective new pcv. When I put my finger on to the hole it does make weird noise.Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
@megalodononwheels4 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes definitely the new one must be faulty 🤔 because my old one that was broken had the lean code, and no i haven't had a oil leak, where is your oil leaking from?
@naumana.23164 жыл бұрын
@@megalodononwheels it was leaking through rear main seal. Now after changing with a new pcv. My mechanic says it has vacume air leak through rear main seal. Old pcv damaged the rear main seal which is why my car is running lean.
@megalodononwheels4 жыл бұрын
My personal opinion is that the first broken pcv could maybe not have released enough pressure then it could damage your seals and then your main seal could of have been the weakest and first to go, but seals won't fix itself, it will just get worse unfortunately, definitely have a look at it in the future again if it starts leaking. Also if the seal has a vacuum leak it would push air into the crank case, it will have nothing to do with the car running lean as its two separate compartments, also thinking about it, the oil pump increases the pressure in the engine to transfer the oil to the cams, it will be most likely push oil out of the seam because of the high pressure than to actually suck air through the seal

Hi, sorry for the English. So there can be a couple of things. I you do the test I did in the start of the video and you have any air blowing out or sucking by that small vent then you know your PCV is faulty and then I reccomend changing it. Sometimes it won't fix all your problems but definitely fix a few of them.

I really doubt it as that code is for a bad Catalitic Converter... Maybe it is just getting blocked up so the flow out the catalytic converter is bad

I was changing my oil when I noticed that old oil smelled like gas. Also the oil cap smelled like gas. When I was trying to investigate that problem I noticed this suction noise and the engine feels its about to die when I open the oil cap while the car is running. And I tested it one time when the engine was still cold and the engine actually died. I don't have any other issues, the small vent on the valve itself has no air flow when I put my finger on it, no engine light on, very smooth idle and the car drives smoothly. Anyone has any idea what that might be?
@megalodononwheels Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the informative comment. A lot of times I get comments that is half awnsered and it makes the entire process longer to try and help haha. Initially any vacuum leak can give you the exact same symptoms like this PCV leak symptoms. Somewhere there is maybe a damaged pipe with a tear or a hole in it. When I talk about a pipe I refer to any pipe that transfers air somewhere like a boost pipe, a vacuum pipe and a few more. It will literally need a lot of physical time to go through the pipes. I would reccomend to start with the pipe going from the PCV to the intske manifold, those pipes must have a O-ring on... Then go to the vacuum pumo at the back, usually it gets worn out and leak air there, one way to know that is because it leaks oil on your exhaust. Then go to the boost pipes and see if you can get something :)

@megalodononwheels11 ай бұрын
When you are talking avout faster, do you mean idles at higher RPM? Most stock cars idles between 700 to 900rpm's, are yours higher?
@Matan222222211 ай бұрын
Not higher but it sounds higher after the old pcv replaced. Sounds like it's the right "sound" that the engine have in terms of air to fuel ratio. Sounds like the engine is "faster" and healthier@@megalodononwheels

@megalodononwheels2 жыл бұрын
So sorry for dor getting to you so late, for some reason your msg never showed. You probably already fixed it, but if I had to guess I would say yes it could be the p PCV if the installment wqs 100%. But it can even be that maybe the PCV is not sitting flat and it might have a leak or even maybe forgotten to tighten somewhere. But if you did find problem, let me know 💪
