For anyone with this issue I had it and it was the crank shaft pulley cog. It had worn so on start up was thrown the timing out. As a result the engine shut off to protect itself. Also threw up crankshaft sensor fault but wasn’t the sensor, it was genuinely picking up a fault.

Okay let me shed some light on this matter i had the exact same symptoms on my VW Crafter 2.0 2011, i had it scanned three times once it said crankshaft sensor the second said cam shaft sensor both were replaced and still the same so i had a complete health scan done by a very sophisticated computer and it turned out to be the correlation between the crankshaft sensor and the cam shaft sensor (basically the timing between the two and the diesel pump was out) so we took the timing cover off pinned it up and locked it, well we tried as it was out but when we did time it up torqued it all up again it was fine, it would have cost nothing apart from two hours stripping it down and rebuild and borrowing the locking tools but the two sensors cost around £90ish, there is various videos on timing the engine if you look at VW Amarok timing belt renewal as it is the same engine there is not to much if you look at Crafter videos, this write up is NOT a 100% that's what is wrong with your van its just a thought to bare in mind as this problem fried my head for over a week, i hope it helps one or two people along the way....

Coloration - Your timing belt has gone a tad slack and it needs the timing belt re pinning and re tensioning. If this fails the bottom gear can be worn or slack - if this fails the crank its self can be worn. You can fit a new gear on a worn crank and it will work.

i have the same vehicle but its throwing error code P1282 Valve for fuel metering and P1813 pressure control valve its not even cranking, what could be the problem?
@DoubleA1155 жыл бұрын
@@geshomlupenga7722 Not even cranking, h'mmm. Very odd for it not to crank over. Not had many faults where one would not crank. First check ALL the fuse's. There is a 30amp (i think its a 30) in the bottom row of the main fuse box. If it goes it will not crank and it puts odd fault codes in. Had it once just out of the blue. I don't understand P No's as i have ODIS which is VW dealer spec. Let me know if you sort it pls.

I’ve got the same problem. Volkswagen Crafter 2.0TDI 109PS. When I purchased the van it was doing this a lot, the guy I purchased it off said he had changed the timing belt himself which made me think wth, but drove fine. Week later started happening badly. Got the timing re-done also new cam sensor, but still the same issue. Could it be the camshaft sensor or could it be a new battery? Van’s battery is a bit dodgy too...mine starts after 4/5 times, someones first time

This problem is no longer exists. Solution is crankshaft position sensor is taking meal from the flywheel . Flywheel need to be replaced also a clutch . Thanks for all your comments .

You need to change the bottom gear on the crank. VW did away with the regular 'key way' woodruff key as on almost all engines since the begging of time and changed it to a circular 'cut out type which is rubbish and wears one side of the face's which puts the timing out of tollerance. You will need a 'vw' tool to hold the crank to un-do and re-tighten the bolt.
