I have actually used a motorcycle jack to pull VW engines on the ground. The motorcycle jack has a large flat area unlike a floor jack and it is a much more stable method of pulling a VW engine. I think you would find that you won't need to use your cherry picker at all if you use a motorcycle jack instead of your regular floor jack. Looking forward to watching your other vids. JC.

I've used one of those before, and I found it to be single purpose for me - VW engine pulls haha! They're stable for sure.

Hi there! Ya I would def. recommend removing the engines from the bottom also, if you remove the two bolts (15mm head) that hold the top of the trans (after disconnecting the shifting rod) you can lower everything and get all the angle you need to remove and install engines in a bus... :)

+Felipe De Calisto / 523Rods hi Felipe, the ONLY way to remove a late bay bus engine is trough the bottom. The engine hoist has been the easiest arrangement I've found. I use in conjunction with a floor jack but you could certainly try to rely just on a floor jack - a little sketchy in my previous experience though!

+Busaru yeah, well any bus, beetle or vanagon engine only comes out from the bottom. On your vid I noticed you didnt remove the upper trans holding bolts though, which makes it a lot harder to remove the engine. If you disconnect the shifter shaft and remove the upper trans bolts you can, actually swing everything down, which makes things sooo much easier. We actually made something to fit on a regular shop jack that makes it work with no problem. Other than that a regular shop jack does make them stable enough...

I noticed the oil pan hangs kinda low. I have a lowered bus 4.5 in in the rear...I'm wondering if I'd run into a clearance issue with this conversion??
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Scot Wheeler Hi Scot, if you are lowered then you'd definitely want to go with a shortened oil pan. Outfront Motorsports offers a modified Subaru oil pan.

Any idea where to get those wheel arches over the rear wheels? Great video series!
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
I really don't like the wheel arches - they're actually extremely ugly. I am planning to try and pretty them up as best I can but its going to be tough. I'm afraid I don't know where they came from.

why dont you use a transmission jack to get the engine out?
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Ron Ramos You can certainly use a trans jack. I do sometimes - check my newer videos to see that in action if you're curious.

You made it ten times harder for yourself. Anytime you pull a Type 2 Bus motor, keep the rear tires on the ground, and only use a hydraulic floor jack - not an engine hoist. As soon as the engine is supported, remove both of the mounts that bolt to the frame. Motor will slide right out by pulling straight back, then drop it down to the ground. Takes less than 30 minutes.

I'm a Volkswagen fan, and I want to know if there is chance to get the motor you have taken off in Volkswagen. if is available to sell I want your motor of Volkswagen if you have interest and if you have the price to let me know. if you want to tell me something I want it in Spanish and if it not possible write in English.

How plausible is it for someone with little mechanical background to complete a swap? Was just quoted $4,000 to rebuild just the top end of my 2.0L FI on my 79....Figure for that price might as well throw a boxer engine in there and have it be reliable
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+BTC I would say that you can do it, just take your time and seek help online when needed. Most of the difficult parts have been figured out so it's mostly nuts and bolts.
