I’m chasing down a clunk when transitioning from no power to power, forward and reverse, even with suspension unloaded. Cv’s were my first guess, incorrect. Mounts are next. These look super easy. Great video!

Mounts are a good cause. I have also seen drivelines make this noise as well.
@willtoulan Жыл бұрын
Did you figure out what the clunk was?
@Tinker3504 Жыл бұрын
@@willtoulan Funny story... I think it was the CV's. After I replaced them I did some clutch dumps(while on jackstands) and the clunk I heard may have just been the jackstands. (I know... LOL right?) None the less, I had also replaced the engine mounts. No clunks now. CV's took less than 2 hours. Engine mounts less than an hour. If they are all old anyway, just swap it all and be done with it. I replaced all steering and suspension on an MK4 golf from rock auto for less than a grand. No demons to chase if everything is new.

Where did you get the torque specs? At 6:38 you said you set it to 100 NM and i havent found anything close to that high on the forums. I am trying to track down torque specs for the body mounted bracket, the engine mounted bracket and the bracket-to-bracket torque but am having little luck so far or what I find isn't clear ( i need pictures) Just wondering where you found these specs.
@Mechani_Cole3 жыл бұрын
Good question! These specs were from the factory service manual from VW itself. They are stretch bolts as far as I know as well.

I have a 2003 Jetta 2.0 manual trans with 230K miles. I am getting vibration in front end only when accelerating and only at somewhat higher speeds. If I am going around 50 mph and push gas pedal down then front will vibrate/shake. If I take my foot off of the gas it is smooth as can be. I did have tires rotated and balanced but didn't help. Could this be engine mounts?
@Mechani_Cole2 жыл бұрын
Have you checked the lower control arms? If it only happens when accelerating it could be the engine mounts. If it happens all the time even when going downhill and neutral then it's something to do with your alignment or control arms or a warped rotor.
@zmoorer2 жыл бұрын
@@Mechani_Cole Thanks. It only happens during acceleration. And not noticeable below 30 or 40mph. I am pretty sure that engine mounts are original. I also read that CV shafts being worn could cause this. They seem to be original as well.
@Mechani_Cole2 жыл бұрын
If it's the axles it would happen during neutral and all other times.. If you feel it during acceleration that's usually the engine mounts

I’ve replaced literally every component in my suspension front and back. I’ve torqued every bolt to spec including the strut mount and put in power flex bushings. I still have a violent thud over bumps. I have a 200k r32. Could it be a symptom of bad mounts? I only replaced the dog bone a few years ago.
@Mechani_Cole Жыл бұрын
Bad mounts or a bad Axle can also cause that thud. Had a similar situation myself on my Audi, turned out to be the axle
