You forgot to drain the oil cooler just behind the radiator. My MK5 2.0 TDI has one and its always good to loosen and drain that too.

It's not all that necessary and can lead to oil cooler leakage if not careful. The small about of old oil in that cooler will be diluted with the fresh oil which is satisfactory.

G12 Evo, genuine OEM, should be replacement for G13

I got an email from shell and thay say hx8 etc 5w30 is based on gtl. But still they recommend to use av-l 0w30. Is that a huge difference between those two? Hx8 is cheapper so I'm puzzeled whether to buy 5ww30 hx8 etc or spend a bit more money on 0w30. I change oil one a year despite milage.

I always stick to OEM recommended grade unless the engine is high mileage. I chose HX8 because it's compatible with the VW oil standards and is compatible with the DPF. I've been using the HX8 for 40k miles now and not had any issues. Can't comment on AV-I 0W-30 as I've never used.

@@ToolTimeWithTom What a relief! When visited shell site they recommend hx8 5w30 sa an economy option. The first labeled as premium is helix ultra c2/c3 0w30. Standard av-l 0w30. So I am gonna stick hx8 ect 5w30. Hope the engine won't fly off my engine bay...

I've always used 5w30 but check owners manual for market specific oil recommendations. Also ensure oil meets VW standards

Do you think the drain plug is accessible without jacking up the car?

I don't think so, you might be able to do it if you bump one wheel up on a kerb though

It is, but the plastic pan, if you have one, will be a pain to remove because you'll be rather blind to the fastener locations underneath. Also, not all oil drain pans will fit underneath, so you'll need to be creative and find or craft something that's shallower. I'm sure many have performed an oil change without jacking up the car, so nothing is impossible.

They're just old brake discs stacked on top of each other and bolted together

So I just changed the engine oil and filter and added 4.5 quarts of 5w 30 oil. The bolt for the oil drain kept turning when I tried to torque the bolt down, but no oil has drained from the car.. I started it and its making a weird noise when I shut it off like click click click. Could it be overfilled? Thanks for the video.

Sounds like maybe the threads are stripped out of either the bolt or the sump, hopefully just the bolt. These are supposed to be replaced every 5 oil changes I think, they're cheap enough though. Have you checked the oil level on the dipstick? 4.5 quarts shouldn't be overfilled, I've seen people use 5 before with no issues.

@@ToolTimeWithTom Thanks for the fast reply, the new bolt did the trick luckily. I removed 4 quarts of oil and added 4.5 quarts. Oddly the pint that came out when removing the stripped bolt was completely black. Hopefully didn't damage anything I only started the car twice and drove it into the garage after. First thought was that I must have installed the filter wrong and it wasn't the bolt not being secured.

I put in 4.4L, but it can change depending on engine code and vehicle.
