Great video! You missed out undoing the extra screws when you changed the air filter (3 from memory?). I guess it’s obvious if you’ve done it before but if you haven’t, it might confuse. Would you suggest draining from sump and changing sump plug too? Or is there no point with your gizmo? Again, great video!

Cheers and you are the first to spot my little cheat. A few of the screws on the air cleaner box were rusted and required the chew grips. If you wanted to be thorough you could do the oil change through the sump and I would be inclined to do that every 2 or 3 changes but to save the time of removing the belly pans it is perfectly acceptable to drain the sump with the pump through the dip stick tube.

Seen a few videos where they say you have to bleed the system when changing the fuel pump. Is it necessary? Noticed you didn’t bother

I didnt go as far as replacing the pump, just the filter. I did not see any mention of priming the pump when researching the job. I did have to prime the pump on my Audi as the filter sat much lower in the car (under the right sill) so there was the possibility for more air in the line but in the Golf the filter is much higher up in the engine bay.

Can you provide a link or a description of the tool/pump you used to extract the oil? Please

What would you say is the hardest part of doing this yourself?
@AstonishingGlasgow2 жыл бұрын
Pouring the oil from that big catch pan into a bottle to take to the recycling center 😄 If I wasn't making the video I would have pumped it straight out the engine into a bottle. The job itself is really straightforward as long as all the fittings are in good condition. I had 1 rounded off screw on the air filter but the rest went smoothly.

@@AstonishingGlasgow thanks for the quick reply. I may consider giving it a shot for the first time. How often would you suggest to service? Is it by miles or time? Also is it worth the savings to do it yourself over getting it done at a garage? Cheers
@AstonishingGlasgow2 жыл бұрын
The service interval should be listed in your handbook. It will be number of miles or months and whatever comes first is when you do the service. If you do it yourself you will definitely save money. You will be able to shop for the best price oil (make sure you buy the correct specification for the engine, especially if you have a turbo) and filters an you won't be paying labour charges.
