Oh man I just suffered when I saw you use steam on those door panels. Mark 5 VW platform has an horrible manufacturing problem with the headliner and door panels fabric, in time the cushion foam turns into dust and the fabric completely detaches from the plastic base, so water or steam will only make things worse, learnt the hard way, had to completely repair all my jetta panels and headliner. AWESOME work as usual !! Completely underrated channel, hopefully the YT algorithm cathes up!

Good idea earlier in the comments about the scale of smell, suggest some Scots phrases: Humming, level 1, Honking, level 2, Howlin', level 3 (The worst). Maybe a 'gads' from Ayrshire and a 'shan' from Edinburgh :)

Interior mats.... these cause the interior to smell stale especially winter time. I've cleaned them with an extractor before and every time they look clean.... but recently I put them in the bath, sprayed warm water on from the shower then sprayed screwfix multi purpose cleaner on and left for 5 to 10 minutes then scrubbed with a scrubbing brush and the amount of dirt coming to the surface was unreal as the cleaner residue was a brownish colour. I then rinsed and rinsed and rinsed as the amount of sand/soil grains being washed out was endless as was the brown water. These looked clean before I washed them but look as new afterwards

The sticky kind of stuff around the head unit and door handles is most likely old and worn out "soft touch" material VW used to put in those places. It was good when it was new but when it ages it gets sticky and it starts falling off.
