Great Videos. I have a Chico MK1 Carb, when the car temperature reaches above quarter, it sounds as if its the pinging noise that one gets from the timing is out etc and sounds crap on a slight uphill, car also does use bit water, like top up 500ml each day. Took the car for carb and co settings and it is spot on but the noise still there.

Set the timing correctly, or the distributor may be worn causing excessive timing advance, it could also mean the timing belt is 1 tooth too advanced on the setting.

Nice..my mk2 1.8 carb is now scaring me it is back firing when i leave accelerator..then sometimes dies...small oil drips coming out of the dipstik but its not burning oil..I've already change plug wires..distributor and carburetor i dont know what to check anymore.

Your car is running very lean, you might have an air leak somewhere

Check the cam timing it sounds like it could be a tooth out.

Hi. Who do you use as your engineers? Let us know ballpark figure for pressure test and skim please. Have my mk1 sitting in the driveway and suspect gasket gone between water jacket and cylinder. Warped head probably. Overheated once thanks to pump attendant tweaking the o-ring on the coolant cap. Oil has always been fine; not milky. But the coolant is definitely getting combustion gas. It has other issues though hence it sitting for a bit.

I use K&M Engineers in Wynberg Cape Town, around R500 for pressure test and skim.
