Notes for UK buyers on home charging: 1. UK cars do not come with a granny charger as standard (for a regular 3-pin socket) but your dealer might give you one, otherwise you will need to buy if you need one. 2. Unless you have a 3-phase electricity supply to your house, a wall box charger will give you a maximum rate of 7.2kW AC

Great video! Here a few more newbie questions: - Battery temperature influences performance a lot. Does the optional heat pump in new models help manage the battery temperature better, or is it just a luxury item for the car interior? - In one of your older videos (Sep 27, 2020) you mention a button on the accelerator that kicks you out of Eco mode. Can you elaborate a bit more on that feature, or do you have an old video that discusses the various driving modes?
@BatteryLife3 жыл бұрын
Heat pump is a luxury item to get more range in the winter. When you press the accelerator pedal fully, you also can push a button with it. In comfort and sport mode nothing changes. In Eco mode you will get full performance and you can drive faster than 130 kmh.

Point of order: If you have the software to "charge" the 12v battery when not in use but the 12v battery is bad all that will happen is that you will endure significant vamp drain from your main battery. Our ID.3 has been doing this. We were losing upto 5kWh a day. It's a bad solution to a bad problem to charge the 12v battery from the traction battery as it masks any issues with the 12v battery until that battery dies completely.

One think is that sadly but true, you still get daily warnings even with 2.0 software. comparing to fossil car the warnings usually means only the parking sensors etch. but for id.3 you still get a lot more warnings, even red ones. which usually go away when you drive and stop or wait a while. really confusing for average joe. also the heat pump does not work at all on low temperatures (when talking about -30 and so on)

Hi Battery Life. Not really happy w your recommending the Schuko w Granny charger. The problem is risk of fire and possible domestic catastrophy. All the power passes a tiny metall thing in the Schuko that heats up. Authorities in Sweden advise everyone w an EV to install a wallbox if at all possible at home. Also you can charge your car a lot faster. Please dont recommended this. Unusual problem maybe but fires at home... The Granny charger is intended for one offs at your Granny 's. Sehr gefärhrlich! Wallbox👍
@BatteryLife3 жыл бұрын
Maybe in sweden. Not in Germany. If your installation is made by a professional which it should be. German homes can handle 10A permanent load. Socket, cable or plug. 2,2kW is not a lot of power. The problem happens when using too thin extension cords, having bad installation (can happen with a wallbox too) or old Renault Zoe charger which used 13A. Wallbox is faster if needed.
@anderspersson61343 жыл бұрын
@@BatteryLife If you think about all the charge you put into your car over time, it kind of adds up to quite a lot. It seems more than reasonable to have an electrician install a new and safe high power outlet like for your oven or better still install a wallbox when you buy an EV. The cost in comparison to a new EV is peanuts, nada. The statistics seem to suggest that a Granny charger is more often involved in fires, w extensions??? Why play this down? Maybe you are playing w fire?🤣🤣🤣 And I just could not understand why the darned mirror did not angle when in R!!! Thanks for the info!!!!
