Notes for UK buyers on home charging: 1. UK cars do not come with a granny charger as standard (for a regular 3-pin socket) but your dealer might give you one, otherwise you will need to buy if you need one. 2. Unless you have a 3-phase electricity supply to your house, a wall box charger will give you a maximum rate of 7.2kW AC

Amazing Q&A! The drone footage is also a great plus! Chris, by the way would you mind answering some of the 6 questions below about the ID3 : 1/ (*see article below) In the new software update will VW change the maximum charging speed up to 130KWh (nowadays with 103/104kw episodical reach), for the 58KW and 77Kw Batteries? 2/ (*article below)also with new induced efficiencies that would change WLTP range from 424kms to 462 Kms? 3/ (*article below) will VW free more 2KW of the battery (from the 62KW battery, 60kw would be available for the driver?), 4/ apple carplay when, and will it be wireless? 5/ Will the ID3 have free online internet access? 6/ In the near future can we buy and install software - online - for extra specs (like for instance the most appreciated ID3 Max autopilot type)? Great video! Here a few more newbie questions: - Battery temperature influences performance a lot. Does the optional heat pump in new models help manage the battery temperature better, or is it just a luxury item for the car interior? - In one of your older videos (Sep 27, 2020) you mention a button on the accelerator that kicks you out of Eco mode. Can you elaborate a bit more on that feature, or do you have an old video that discusses the various driving modes?
@BatteryLife
@BatteryLife 3 жыл бұрын
Heat pump is a luxury item to get more range in the winter. When you press the accelerator pedal fully, you also can push a button with it. In comfort and sport mode nothing changes. In Eco mode you will get full performance and you can drive faster than 130 kmh.

Point of order: If you have the software to "charge" the 12v battery when not in use but the 12v battery is bad all that will happen is that you will endure significant vamp drain from your main battery. Our ID.3 has been doing this. We were losing upto 5kWh a day. It's a bad solution to a bad problem to charge the 12v battery from the traction battery as it masks any issues with the 12v battery until that battery dies completely.

VW developers sleeping at work. Mercedes had an easy solution für decades. The e-Golf works but pretty strange to get it done and you need the manual which had been rewritten in that Part in the past 2 years due to complaints. ID3 solution is so 90s and a shame. That engineer has to be fired unable to copy the e-Golf and unaware about where the competition stands.

One think is that sadly but true, you still get daily warnings even with 2.0 software. comparing to fossil car the warnings usually means only the parking sensors etch. but for id.3 you still get a lot more warnings, even red ones. which usually go away when you drive and stop or wait a while. really confusing for average joe. also the heat pump does not work at all on low temperatures (when talking about -30 and so on)

On the edge about getting a new car... I'd LOVE to go EV but since getting a Tesla right now seems to be as easy as winning the Lotto, I'm torn between a 500ev, a e-208, an ID.3 My biggest gripe is the battery life: so many variables, and the fear of getting stuck with no power in the middle of the road is real, plus the rather slow charge times at public stations. I find it very ironic that the car has high consumption in cold weather due to the initial BATTERY HEATING (first 15 minutes of each trip) but then when you get to a rapid charger an hour later, the car COLDGATES and gives you 38 kW charging due to ... ironically ... COLD BATTERY.

Hi Battery Life. Not really happy w your recommending the Schuko w Granny charger. The problem is risk of fire and possible domestic catastrophy. All the power passes a tiny metall thing in the Schuko that heats up. Authorities in Sweden advise everyone w an EV to install a wallbox if at all possible at home. Also you can charge your car a lot faster. Please dont recommended this. Unusual problem maybe but fires at home... The Granny charger is intended for one offs at your Granny 's. Sehr gefärhrlich! Wallbox👍
@BatteryLife
@BatteryLife 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe in sweden. Not in Germany. If your installation is made by a professional which it should be. German homes can handle 10A permanent load. Socket, cable or plug. 2,2kW is not a lot of power. The problem happens when using too thin extension cords, having bad installation (can happen with a wallbox too) or old Renault Zoe charger which used 13A. Wallbox is faster if needed.
@anderspersson6134
@anderspersson6134 3 жыл бұрын
@@BatteryLife If you think about all the charge you put into your car over time, it kind of adds up to quite a lot. It seems more than reasonable to have an electrician install a new and safe high power outlet like for your oven or better still install a wallbox when you buy an EV. The cost in comparison to a new EV is peanuts, nada. The statistics seem to suggest that a Granny charger is more often involved in fires, w extensions??? Why play this down? Maybe you are playing w fire?🤣🤣🤣 And I just could not understand why the darned mirror did not angle when in R!!! Thanks for the info!!!!

Yet another nice video! Just picked my ID3 today. It's been great for the few hours I've had it. It unfortunately came with the older software. Have you had any issues with the key fob losing sync with the car?

One key yes, the one we never use, but it had to do with a changed control unit.

You should be hired by VW. You are doing a way better job at informing us, than ID. Volkswagen is doing on Facebook. Keep up the good work. However with battery charging you made a tiny mistake. Charging until 100% does not harm the car (source; VW NL (www.volkswagen.nl/elektrisch-rijden/veelgestelde-vragen/id3#:~:text=De%20accu%20kan%20met%20maximaal,om%20290%20km%20te%20rijden.). Only the slower aspect is true.

Thanks. Charging any battery to 100% and let it sit is degrading the battery faster!
@Freakie1NL
@Freakie1NL 3 жыл бұрын
@@BatteryLife Yes you are right about that. But statement VW NL says something different. Personally I load to 80% and than just before I leave to 90%. Do not need 100%. But I guess VW NL says it's alright because the gross amount of the battery is higher than we can use. E.g. 100% is about 90%

Has anyone else had problems when braking and getting riplash? Even if I try and brake softly. Just got the car the other week and have driven it a couple of times. And so far I bloody hate this fucking car! Sometimes when it's not trying to launch my head through the wind screen, I end up stopping to far away. If I take it to a garage will they be able to make it less sensative?
