For me, the 200 hp of my ID.3 feels like a race car. 0-100 km/h in just 7.3 sec. is amazing. I never had a daily driver with such a power.

After the Porsche Taycan, for me, VW ID3 62KW(58 kW available) is undoubtfully the best, the one who provides a better driving experience and what a good insulation! (vis a vis The Tesla Model 3 that I had, this is much better with the exception of the charging stations). The most charming EV in the Market. Great music by the way!

Hi Chris, I totally agree. During my time as a Car Guy, I drove a lot of BMWs, the ID.3 drives more like a BMW than a VW. Better than a BMW in some features. So the switch from BMW to the ID.3 was not difficult for me and I grew to love it.

I totally agree with your rear-wheel drive (RWD) remark. I am glad that VW determined to return to its original root (Beetle and Microbus were RWD) by making the MEB platform 100% RWD and RWD-biased AWD. Plus, RWD is more cool and fun to drive than FWD.
@DJMaartenVersteeg

Would you prefer the RWD biased AWD over RWD for the extra buck? The larger sized skoda sibling (enyaq) is built on the same platform. The AWD will come later this year and expected price bump will be a bit north of 2000 euro (2.500 dollar)

I completely agree with everything you said! All points are very valid, but the most in underrated point in general is (imo) nr. 4. The turning circle is just amazing, and you have no idea what it means unless you've driven it. But here in the Netherlands, with pretty cramped parking spaces in some place, and parallel parking (which I do every day in front of my house) it is just amazing. Also: I was wondering if you were gonna make this video, after the "7 dislike" video 🤣

People have got used to front wheel drive and their terrible turning circle, rear wheel drive always is better as they don't have those constant velocity joints that won't bend past a certain angle.

As a fellow Dutchie I agree. Had to get the hang of it. It's soooo much easier to park now that it was actually difficult at first, simply because I didn't expect it to be that easy.... if that makes any sense. Had to get used to it, but now? 'Fileparkeren' with just one time backwards, one time forwards. And, done! 😁

@@dennisbjergmadsen5163 not all of them, many don’t heat up the battery as much as the ID.3. The problem with the ID.3 is that it heats the battery to 13ºC as soon as you start moving, that results in high consumption for a few minutes, and for short distances the battery may be heating for the whole trip, wasting a lot of energy to heat up a battery that in reality didn’t need to be heated.

I would add the whole heating. My app heating does not work (there is fix but I have not got it yet) so no preheating for me, but when I sit into the car in -25 it will only take minute to be confortable. Heater will start to heat right away, not blowing cold air around as in ICE. Stearingwheel and seats starts to heat nicely. You can take of your cloves right away. BTW the buttons and screen works with cloves. I tested, but I never will drive with cloves on. This is one of those things that is true for most of the electric cars, but I really really like it.

Have to thoroughly agree on the Active Matrix headlights. Having had an e-Golf for 2 years, I expected the ID.3 1st Edition Plus (same as you) to be quiet (it is even quieter), to have good acceleration, to be roomy (it is more roomy). I expect that the app, the car will get better functionality as the main software is updated, then as the incremental updates come over the next few years, the integration to even better. The ACC is even better. The auto- headlights, wipers, unlock, hold, all make easy use of the car. I have got the transport hitch installed, though have not used it yet (COVID restrictions) to carry my bicycles. That I could not do with the e-Golf.

Steering feel does indeed mean different things to different people and can vary from car to car of course, tyres etc. The first 10 years of my driving experience was with rear wheel drive. Then I converted to front wheel drive in 1983 and it was a revelation (better). But I was comparing a FWD Ford Escort (notably good in that era) with a RWD Ford Cortina (less good). I have been driving exclusively FWD ever since, and with my Mk7 Golf the steering is fine and hardly affected by torque steer, it is possible to drive with a delicate touch in most conditions I find and I enjoy that. One of the features of modern cars which has changed things a lot I suspect is traction control. One complaint I always had with those RWD Cortinas was that the inside rear wheel would struggle for traction when turning out of junctions, and driving in other difficult conditions. I would expect current day cars with traction control to be far superior now. The ID.3 has a lot of weight to help keep the rear wheels firmly on the ground too. Maybe one day I will convert back to rear wheel drive, with the associated greater purity of feel in all conditions :-)

Hey, I seem to have a problem that I can't find either you, or in comments here or somewhere else. Not in any forum I found either. The problem is the speed of charging. I live in southern Sweden (so weather like Hamburg or Denmark). I charge at Ionity here their 350 kw chargers. The use case : I start to charge at around 20%. Charge speed at around 50-55 kw. (Only once when I was down to 4% did it reach 73 kw) As soon as the battery starts to reach 30-35% the charging speed drops to 35-40 kw. At 65% and above it goes down to 20 kw. I am dependant on these fast chargers (can't charge at home) so the "charge 20-80% in 40 minutes" becomes almost 90 minutes for me. The car is now with the local VW dealer but here in Sweden they basically take my questions and send to VW in Germany so not so sure how much they can help except "maybe wait for the update?" :) Anyone else experienced this? Any advice? Other than that (and that the battery capacity drops ALOT in 0 degrees temp) I love the car!!

There are still platforms shared by EV and combustion models existing, e.g. BMW Mini or Hyundai Kona. Since the non-EV models are front driven, the EV of the same platforms are also. At best, the tire consumption will rise. I once had a Kona as a rental to make my first experience with an EV. When entering the Autobahn at 80 km/h I pressed the acceleration pedal to the ground to gain speed. The front wheels almost immediately start spinning before ASR came in. I understand the argument of decreased comfort...

I live in hope that they will bring it to the US. ID.4 is too big for my taste. I had a Golf for 12 years and put 150k miles on it. I would expect to drive the ID.3 for that kind of period too. I am guessing it is comfy in the back given that EVs seem to be more roomy than their ICE equivalents.

There's a feature called Auto Hold, which keeps the car stationary after coming to a complete stop. You just need to press the brake pedal a bit when stopped, which enables the feature. Or you brake more softly and you can get the car moving by easing up on the brake pedal.

@@BatteryLife so I've now had the privilege of testing an ID3 overall good car but for me not practical I feel that the front was very loose on the road and that in the winter bad weather the car would be difficult to drive and yes I know winter tyres, but here in the UK, they are not mandatory. overall I would feel better if the car had a snow mode like my Tiguan where the throttle response is not so agressive.

As far as I’m aware, it handles the snow extremely well, probably due to the fact that it’s an ELECTRIC rear wheel drive: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGmriXmCZrKiaM0

Even Teslas with RWD (SR+) drive better then AWD (yes, the Performance). They are less quick, but have better handling.

You were a bit unkind listing only 7 things. I guess you are going to make another video listing the other 100 things you like. Dont forget to mention panel gaps, paint finish, permanent roof, waterproof boot lit, indicator stalk that stays in position, grab handles at the top of all doors, shall I make a long list for you?

ID3 is a good car (or will be in the future), but please, get off the Tesla, as any fault of Tesla is overpublished all over the press (sour especially in Germany, as Teslas are the first better US cars than German ones in millenia). This ID3 has unfinished software with buggy app, still no OTA and was in the workshop 4 times. If it was Tesla you would hate it for a next 10 years. And now, just now there is the huge problem with all EV with LG Chem batteries, especially with Leaves, but it will come to ID3 and probably even Teslas from China. These are serious problems like fire and extreme degradation which can result with battery recall! Battery recall! And nobody cares. The faults you mention about Tesla are old FUD - panel gaps are a nuisance incomparable to any of the 7 ID3 faults from the previous video. And now, in current M3s they have perfect paint job and gaps (see Munro). The roof thing was accident of the faulty mounted aftermarket roof rails (it was mounted to the glass). Other issues addressed. Same as will be with ID3. Probably, because we know, that Tesla enhances their cars all the time. We don't know if VW will be the same good.
