VW Jetta 1.4T CTS Turbo 3” Downpipe - Exhaust Sound Comparison

Exhaust comparison between a completely stock exhaust and the CTS Turbo 3” downpipe. The car also has the Unitronic Stage 2 tune and an AEM cold air intake. The sound is a little different in person, but my GoPro picked it up pretty well.

If I was you I would take that muffler out, it’s holding a lot of good noise and pops

Update: The sound has changed as it's gotten some heat through it, It sounds much better now, I'll post another video once I get a few more heat cycles through it.

Did you have any trouble installing the CTS down pipe I hear there’s some issues with fitment of the 02 Sensor? Check engine light come on for you ? I’m planning on going stage 2 on my 1.4T and have a CTS intake so I’m trying to research which down pipe to go with. Thanks!

@@guillermosantana6404 No problems on installation or positioning of the O2 sensors, I have one little fitment issue that makes a rattle every now and then, but it’s super minor. Only CEL that I’ve had is from the V-band, since I tried to reuse the factory clamp, so I’d get a new V-band preemptively instead of trying to reuse the factory hardware.

Hey long did it take for the downpipe to break in? Would you say like 100 miles or less?

Definitely, not very long at all, driving around for a weekend broke it in just fine!

@@Shane458b reason I asked, I just installed a CTS catted downpipe with AWE track catback. Since install I'm so shocked at the loud ass sound I'm getting during my normal city driving! It has really put me off from driving my car till I figure something out 😔

@@Crnx449 There is the track to touring conversion from AWE you can buy to make it quieter, I hope you’re able to figure that out and get a sound you like man

Tbh it sounds just about like stock once it’s warm, I’ll drive around with my GoPro sometime and if it sounds interesting at all I’ll post it.

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it 👍🏻 my thing is I refuse to pay like 400-600 dollar range for a downpipe when I can practically fabricate the same thing and save hundreds of dollars and get the same result. It really sucks these companies have the nerve to charge that kind of money for some stainless steel piping.

On higher revs there’s sort of a buzz on deceleration, only happens coming down from high rpm’s and I don’t really hear it day to day.

@@Shane458b so is this a catless downpipe mated to the stock exhaust? I want to have a shop remove the second cat and resonator, but leave the stock muffler. Unfortunately there are no sound clips on that specific setup. I have a feeling it might sound good though.

@@P_Tag You’re correct, my setup is a catless downpipe into a stock exhaust, idk about deleting the resonator, small 4 bangers do tend to be more raspy and drone-y

@@Shane458b they sure do lol I’m planning on starting with just deleting the resonator. I have a feeling that may be enough volume for me. I really want the stage 2 map though so if I see a cheap enough downpipe I may go that route.

I got one from the factory v band leaking, but after I replaced it with a new v band it went away

@@devonlefever6100 I’ve had the tune on for a little under 10k miles and I just now this last weekend had a CEL during a road trip for the downstream 02 sensor resistance that I cleared and it didn’t come back. Literally no other issues and it’s been a daily driver for over a year with the stage 2 tune

@@dimasvw2518 So my state doesn’t do emissions testing, but the Unitronic downpipe has a cat or there’s a section in the CTS downpipe where you can put in a cat if you want one.

Yes, it requires a stage 2 tune to avoid a CEL and turn up the engine to take advantage of the extra flow.
