VW Key fob Battery replacement 2015-2018, DIY how to change the battery cell flat dead battery Golf

In this video I demonstrate how to replace the battery in a Volkswagen flip key. You will need a large and small flat blade screwdriver to help remover the battery. Really simple job so why not give it a go 😊

2019 VW Golf 7 If you replace the battery because the dash board says replace key battery you have to unlock and unlock the doors with the remote to clear the dash board message.

Excellent. I had seen 3 or 4 other VW key videos, but they were all different from my key (T-Roc 2018) and they all had 2032 batteries. Following this video I got my fob open and the battery was a 2025. Replaced in seconds.

Please tell us WHERE to buy a rechargeable battery. mine keep dying. I just do not understand why rechargeable batteries are no used in replacement fobs.

The cr2025 batteries are quite cheap, pack of 10 on Amazon for £6

It’s a relatively odd CR2025, but a CR2032 battery will work in a pinch

Hey, no problem, yes the batteries don’t last as long as they used to with cars that have start buttons etc. because the vehicle is always checking every few minutes if the key is still in the vehicle.

Thank you. I just got back from driving from DC to NYc suburbs, with 2 quick stops only for bios breaks with the engine running because the key battery was almost dead. Had trouble starting the car. Once i got it started the second time I decided not to turn it off until I was back in NY. All because I did not know how to change the key battery myself. Plus on Sunday no service people are open although how I would get to them was a puzzle. I bought the batteries at the pharmacy but then did not know how to get them in the fob. I've stowed two extra batteries in the car just to be safe. Feel much more independent now. Slightly tense 5 hour drive home.

Note - CR2025 is the battery for this model key fob - NOT CR2032!

Yes but some models in that range have a similar fob with a cr2032 like the 2017 vw beetle. I’d recommend taking it apart first before buying a battery to check.

Attn. Viewers: Although the title of this video has VW and the years 2015-2018, use the good demonstration to take off the back of the fob and check first. Because... I have a 2016 Jetta and my fobs don't take the CR2025, but rather the CR2032. I live in a rural area, and this led to me having an extra 30-minute trip. No foul though, life is meant to live, the extra trip gave me a reason to get out of the house and enjoy an unusually mild weather winter day, with a hint of sunshine. This is a direct contrast from the cabin fever I have gotten from COVID-19 isolation precautions. Some helpers and keyboard warriors would give this video a thumbs down and/or leave a scathing comment about how not all 2015-2018 VW key fobs take the CR 2025 battery, but that is not my way. Before going to the store, I could have checked it. The demonstration on popping off the back cover was helpful to me. Just wanted folks to know, check first, before buying a battery. It is quite possible the CR2025 is just for his particular model/trim of VW. Again, no foul. Sh*t happens.
