VW Mk5 GTI Oil Filter Housing Replacement (Massive Oil Leak!)

My 2008 VW GTI was leaking a large amount of oil. We suspected that the oil pan was leaking but after taking it apart we discovered that the oil filter housing was leaking which is apparently a common problem on these cars. Follow along as I replace it.

Excellent. I did this a while back at 176,000 miles and had fun getting the fans in and out. And yes mine was leaking too. Also replaced the gasket on the DSG cover as it was slowly leaking fluid.

I think all dealer bills begin at $1000. I think that part alone is around $400 from the dealer.
