VW Polo 1.4 unstable idle_EGR Valve_ throttle body clean_throttle body alignment

Hi.
This is what happen with my car. I don't know alot about car mechanic but I tried to save some money .
Do this on your own risk.
Be careful with throttle body, use the tooth brush and throttle cleaner, break cleaner didnt work with me as its dry fast and the dirt still on the part.
Be careful while you reset the ECU. Don't touch the connections together unless they are both not connected to the battery .
Be careful while cleaning the engine side from the throttle, don't let anything go inside the engine from the dirt ( try as much as you can ) for me there was alot of cleaning and I use screwdriver to take of the dirt from the valves.
Buy the obd2 reader to erase the error code it's very cheap . I bought one called u281. And it worked well. Be careful not to turn on the engine while you are using it.

Difficult to answer this question, if it's start normally but you noticed that responding time changes from time to time . Or was better before and now it's slow. It should be checked. You can check the throttle body your self.if it's dirty or not but it's effect the power and fuel efficiency more I think not the responding time .

It could require a throttle body alignment of you've got an electric pedal. Throttle body alignment allows the pedal and throttle body to get back into sync. You could also disconnect the battery overnight and your ecu will reset when you reconnect on the morning. Hope it helps... 👍🏼

I had found a better way, unscrew the tb, n dont disconnect it, put a cardboard or plastic ontop of engine n start spraying tge liquid u use with tooth brush

@@LwandleDludlu Hi if you moved the butterfly valve in the throttle body you will need to reset the air learning values with a OBD system such as VCDS, taking it to a workshop to do an adaption is probably best shouldnt cost too much

Hey All I have been battling with my 2005 Polo 1.6 (9N3). It starts immediately (with accelerator pressed I always start it like this). It will idle fine with no problem but as soon as I release the accelerator it idles funny for few seconds and then switches off. I took it to a local mechanic and he did a full service ( spark plugs, oil and air filter, oil change) and I also replaced the battery but the problem still persists. Please help It has had this issue for months now and have lost the joy of owning a car.

the car should starts without pressing the gas pedal . i am not sure about the problem but This may be related also to fuel issue , week pump and clogged fuel filter ... try to mix some fuel System cleaner as first step ..

My bby engine keeps cutting out. We have changed the throttle body sensor the map sensor the fuel pump. Checked all the pipes. Our mechanic says he has no idea why as diagnostics says there is nothing showing. It starts and idles perfectly but once you start driving it cuts out when you slow down. Please help.

It must be an air leak somewhere, and hope it's not inside the engine, petrols tend to rought idle on the smallest air leak, it just need some thorough search

Hello, I have also an Polo 9N, with 1.2 liter petrol motor. I have the same issue with my idle unstable. And it is not let me control the throttle in any way. I have to shut the engine off and start again, but some times it start right after restart to self fluctuate the idle again. Could be also the solution for my car? Thanks.

Hi, if you can't control the gas pedal , in other way control RPM , so it could be another problem, I can increase the RPM and problem was instability on Ideal situation. You can check if the throttle is dirty , but if you can't increase the RPM it should be so dirty and won't open at all, ( if the throttle was the problem in your case, as it could be another reasons also)

@@mrwmaad Thank you for promt response. I have to check later when I get home. But Not all the time I have the control RPN issue. I just happends, when the EPC light goes ON and somethimes it lights the MOTOR Light also. Some times after 30-40 restarts, it is stabe, and works OK. But sometimes the EPC light is till ON and the idle is unstable. I have to mention theat I have on my car a GPL instalation from factory, but it happend this also when on GPL or Gasoline.

Having the same issue rn, I took it to an electrician and he changed the brake switch but the problem stayed :/ he told me to try cleaning the throttle body, haven't tried it yet...

Now I noticed my third brake light (top one at the back of the car) is off so I'm waiting on the part to see if that's the issue.

Hey man, just randomly read your comment. Had this same error with my Polo 9N 1.4l FSI 2002, for me, a small part of the plastic lever broke and thats why the manifold valve couldn't be moved and the N316 sensor (that is just mounted onto it) tells you that. To Do: Get to that sensor its on the passenger side of the engine a bit to the rear, and check whats broken. Don't give up, saved me 900€ I fixed it with cable ties, to connect the vacuum unit and the lever again.
