Thanks for the great tutorial, gave me the confidence I was lacking...mine turned out great. I removed arm, removed main shaft and gear. Cleaned everything reassembled. Thanks for letting us know the tap size. I filled mine with light weight Grease.

This week I cleaned up my 70 Typ 3 Steerbox and closed it with 90w TRANSM fluid as my workshop manual calls for it. Book said 4.6 oz and then bolt on cover. Yours looking great. Call me VW

I tapped n installed grease zirks on mine without removing it I probably should have since the plastic plugs crumbled n fell inside but I figured it’ll be ok lol anyway just another way I did with the zirks

The Steering Box is supposed to be FILLED with EP90 or EP80 Gear OIL and NOT Grease. I suppose the Lower SEAL were leaking already. Otherwise why not use Gear Oil
