Hello: thanks for the advice. I really don't feel capable of doing that transformation. I thought it would be easier. If I put an external tachometer, is there a cable near the cluster that I can use as a signal? or which part of rear engine should I bring the cable? Thanks again.

There is a designed wire, i think it's green, goes from engine bay (alternator, w signal) into the instrument cluster, you can use it for signal to feed the external tachometer.

Hello, thanks! I will keep in mind, that I can fit MK2 Golf tacho, but in my country, it's quite rare also. Modern PCB upgrade, I have seen them, but the good one with low light LED's and working low oil pressure buzzer is quite expensive, as I know, over 100 eur, and this PCB was still fixable :)

I just did the same for my 82 diesel westy! I don’t have a W terminal either. Can you explain more about how to add one? I want my tach to work too...

Hi. On the alternator there are windings, that connects to the diode bridge. Winding gives around 7 volts, but most important it gives frequency to run the tacho. You need to solder one wire on any of the 6 windings (clamped and soldered connections).. google: "alternator diode bridge", you will see 6 U forms connections on the outer side of the diode bridge. You will need around 100w soldering iron to solder a wire there.

Also make sure that your tacho isn't from petrol engine. In this case you need to change some parts in the tachos circuit board to run it from W terminal. Or if you have ECU+petrol tacho, easier to run it from ECU output.

@@lorenzocassar4525 Have you checked that engine oil pressure switch with multitester when revving up to 2000? It must work correctly, otherwise, you will have that buzzer buzzing. My advice not to delete it in any case. I remember I had such an issue when revving more than 2000 rpm, the buzzer started to buzz, but my problem was not a switch, it was the oil pump pickup screen half-clocked with silicon rubber from my rebuilds. Cleaning that screen in the oil sump solved the buzzer problem.

Hello: The cluster of my VW T3 has a speedometer on one side and an analogue clock on the other with the Tª indicator on top and the fuel level indicator on the bottom. I'd like to put a tachometer in place of the analog clock. If possible, can you please advise me? You are a handyman Thank you very much

Hi, it's possible, you need to get the whole tachometer with holder. You can't just put tacho in the clock holder, it's slightly different, requires to modify it or change it. The hole for the clock adjuster is going to stay. Those gauges T and F are different also. If you are handy enough, you can do it, but I prefer to find complete instrument cluster, if it's not too expensive.

Hi domig, I have a question why the red led battery flashes when I connect a tachymeter 2.39. I have vw t3 engine 1.6 td model jx. I know the model 2.22 it's better, at moment I swap a tachymeter mk2. Thanks best regards Claudio

Hi, are you sure we are talking about battery LED? Because this one stays on until alternator starts working. The one on the tacho was flashing because it was missing ground, number 1 track on the plug was not in contact. Explain a little bit more, maybe I didn't catch your point.

@@Gadomaitis thanks for quick answers The tachy it's 2.39 is planned for a diesel engine with "power steering", is it possible to have a problem to connect? I don't have power steering but I have a diesel engine.

No worries. It is possible to connect, there should be no issues. Power steering has nothing to due with tacho or instrument cluster it self. I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with tacho 2.22 or 2.39. I know tacho only for petrol engines and diesel engines. Both of them are good. @@chechilesgarage2536 you can remove that spring with a small flat screwdriver, with a very slight move twist the screwdriver and release the pressure, lift the spring. Then you can remove everything else.

@@Gadomaitis i was looking to make that too, but it has so many things to change i remember, like que speed electric sensors, the diesel gauge or the signal lights. To much for me, but maybe easy for you ;)

@@cristianpr I want to change only internal part, just that speedometer mechanism, even leaving that back plate, keeping everything original, ratio will be a little bit off, but I reckon, nothing major. Same thing as bigger tires :)
