Hi. Before the speedometer needle is removed, it must be carefully lifted over the black needle stop. The needle will then move downwards and will stop. It will point at a small white mark on the speedo face near the bottom of the face. Now, the needle can be removed. The easiest way to remove is to use a fork that must be slided underneath the needle. A small downward push on the fork is enough to pop the needle loose. When replacing the needle, it must be aligned again with the small white mark on the bottom of the face. A firm downward push will secure it on the shaft. It must then be lifted over the black needle stop. If these steps are not followed, the speedometer will either indicate a too fast or to slow speed.

Dude that's brilliant THANKYOU! I never noticed a little mark but will have a look now for that dot. Might even do a vid based in that awesome info. Only problem is I need another needle. Managed to some how break mine! Probably being too clumsy! Doh! 😊👍

@PeoplesCar Hi. The broken needle can be glued back on with super glue. Epoxy glue can also be used but will add much more weight to the needle. Bear in mind that the weight of the needle is crucial to reflect the correct speed when operating. (Although minute, a small weight variance will affect the indicated speed). What I have done after applying glue was to temporarily connect the speedometer cluster to the speedometer cable without completely assembling it. I then drove and used my google Maps speed indicator to see what speed I am traveling at. I then positioned the speedometer needle to reflect the speed I am driving at according to the Google maps speed indicator. Surely, this method is not scientific but will aid in “calibrating” the speedometer to reflect actual driving speed. A speedometer needle from a VW Golf mk1 (VW Rabbit) has the same diameter hole for fitting on the shaft of the Vanagon’s speedometer needle shaft. Be sure to weigh the needle before installing it, ensuring that it matches the weight of the Vanagon’s speedometer needle.

@willemmaas9813 wow lot of information there thankyou. I already glued it with epoxy and used the smallest amount I could but its not a job I would be happy with so deffo wants a 2nd try with superglue. It's very brittle plastic. If the weight alters the reading then driving with the needle off and replacing at a set speed would give a false reading. Would need to fine tune adjust it replacing the needle slightly further round. I bet that's an annoying job and I'd probably crash 😅😅😅👍

Hi, thank you for the great video. Can you please tell me in which direction the drill turns? Clockwise or anticlockwise?

I replied to your other comment but anticlockwise looking at the back of the Speedo moves it 'forward'. Check out this vid might be useful.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqPckJaOnLGpkLs GL 😊👍
