Thanks Dan. I have a creaking sound, I think is coming from the steering rack and a suspension knock, maybe sway bar link. These videos are helpful as I'm no mechanic and can't afford to pay one

Just completed task thanks to your video. FYI, I have a 1.9 T5 '54. The NS shaft (passenger side). Is held on with bolts. Other side slips off like yours. Why they are not the same is beyond me!! Thanks again.

Have just done this job your vid helped thanks. My drive shalft was longer and went straight into the gearbox was an extra two blots but was easy to do one pull so spend more and make sure you get the extra bit will save time

Usefu video! If you ever do it again can you film the removal of the stub shaft? Cheers.

Great how-to for novices. Thanks for sharing. Not sure how you ignored that ice cream van though!

Good video always wondered how on earth to remove the shaft on that side
@DanSohan7 жыл бұрын
Matt Mccarthy thanks. I've had so off again since then. I though the one of the other side was bolted on the gearbox end, but it turns out it's also pressed in. Don't know about the stub axle through

@DanSohan5 ай бұрын
It lasted until the van passed on.

What size is the multi point socket for the axle?

thanks for the video. I have a question: I pulled on the drive shaft and the upper boot came off but left the hexagonal housing where the tripod hub resides connected to the van. I've pulled on that thing in so many ways and nothing. how hard do you have to lever that thing to get it to come out?! I've spent the best part of the day on this damn thing and I'm going out of my mind. cheers for the great video mate...us novice weekend mechanics have to stick together! 😀

It took some propper effort to remove.. I've since even told using level is the wrong idea, a slider hammer is the best method, but I dont have anything that would work. If you do go hitting it, beware not to pull it off stands or jacks as that's the kind of welly it needs.. bad design really, much easier when it simply bolts to gearbox

Hello, would be nice to know what gearbox you have? DSG 7speed? Or manual 5 speed
@DanSohan2 жыл бұрын
5 speed manual in this video
@ianstainer80252 жыл бұрын
@@DanSohan thanks for the reply, I have a 7 speed DSG, with possible worn splines, (to be removed next week) was wondering if the DSG box have stub-shafts on the nearside?
@DanSohan2 жыл бұрын
@@ianstainer8025 not sure on that. Never worked on a DSG, but looking on Google it looks like they have a range of similar inserted stubs, bolt on ends with splined output and some integrated outputs that look very difficult to get out. Best would be to look up the gearbox number

What socket do you need for that centre nut on the hub?
@DanSohan4 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly sure its a 12 point star socket. But I cant remember what size and can't find it to hand at the moment. If I can find it tomorrow I'll let you know. I think 22mm or 24 of top of head. Found it at Halford advanced range. Like that cus if it breaks they usually replace for free.

@@DanSohan thanks Dan. Let me know if you remember the size
