Drive it! takes a Suzuki Grand Vitara and a VW Tiguan for a drive in the country. As could be expected from SUVs, both come with all-wheel drive and adequate ground clearance; a shallow creekbed is absolutely no obstacle.

Well, here in Ukraine, I was choosing between those 2 cars 5 years ago. A 2 lt Vitara with full specs (climate, xenon, leather, etc) was $ 33K, a 2 lt Tiguan in the same specs was $50K. Guess what I chose? :) Actually Suzuki is not a bad car after all, very good off-road (I do a lot of it), ok on road, very modest in service. Probably VW is a better city car, but I doubt it can handle what I threw at my SGV in those 5 years.

Same for me, maintenance on the Suzuki was nothing. It could go anywhere. These GV's can still be seen in Ukraine and other countries where off road driving is a must, not a choice. While those Tiguan's are mostly old scrap or a worth a whole lot less now. I expect to see the GV's to be around for another years. Tiguan, nope.

One word. UNIBROW. FFS man learn some personal grooming and do something about your eyebrow. Or is that normal for German guys. Oh and the review is pointless too. They are two completely different classes of cars, The suzuki has actual offroad capabilites with true 4WD, and the Volkswagen is like 50 others cars with basic AWD

thinking of getting one of the 2, vw is faster and smoother, but GV is good off road.VW has good resale but GV has the looks.hard choice, which one is better? I dont like the spare tire on the GV but the VW is weak off road

+Barney B Tiguan is not weak off road at all, compared to most crossovers the Tiguan is one of the best. you can check many videos online or on rollers where the Tiguan fairs better.

just go with the suzuki. it can do you no wrong and is cheap to maintain. The VW on the other hand is soooooooo unreliable. in fact it ranked as one of the most unreliable in america. And tiguan and resale value should never be used in the same sentence... those things depreciates way too fast (in australia). in australia the vw depreciates much quicker than any GV. tiguan is nice if you only plan on having it for a year or two, but to be able to keep it, suzuki all the way in this case.
