VW Touareg TDI Fuel Filter Replacement

My 2012 Touareg TDI started cranking for a long time before starting after refueling. I decided to replace the fuel filter to see if that had any impact on the hard starting and also to see if there was any evidence of contamination. This procedure would likely be the same for an Audi Q7 TDI or a Porsche Cayenne Diesel of the same vintage.

thx for the video; I'm having to do this on my wife's Touareg as she got some bad diesel, and now we've got "algae" or whatever buildup is in the fuel tank. Going to treat it and just change the filters frequently. Have you ever replaced your glow plugs? Would love a good video on that one!

When I got this car it had a code for a bad glow plug. It was one with the cylinder pressure sensor also, so it was more expensive. When I went to install it I discovered that it was unplugged. Plugged it in and it has been fine ever since.

Thanks for posting this Bryan! I have the same year Touareg so really helps. Haven’t seen anyone with a 2012 have to clean the carbon build up. Maybe not that much of an issue with our year model?

I have heard maybe a lot of highway miles may help that issue. I don't know how true that is though.
