VW Touareg Transmission Service

It is time to change the "lifetime" transmission fluid and filter in my 2012 VW Touareg TDI. I purchased a kit from Blauparts that has everything I need except the tools. The project is pretty easy other than you will need a way to measure the fluid temperature to properly set the level. Some useful tools are listed below. Yes, good addition: when you unplug the filler adaptor, with the engine running, in D, you let the oil drip out as much as it will. Only then you reinstall the plug.

I got an education again Bryan. Thanks for your time. I never had a vehicle that you filled the tranny fluid in this manner. My vehicles were all filled through the dip stick. Goes to show that your never to old to learn as I am almost 72 y.y.. Have a beautiful day my friend!! Illinois

Been watching your vids ever since I needed some how too's on my Acadia now I see you servicing another Vehicle I have done the same tranny service on 😂. Yup those Touregs are overbuilt tanks. My sisters had about 180K on hers, but I actually flushed it by the cooler lines. I would top off a gallon each time then ran it till it sputtered out the line. I flushed it out with 3 gallons of Valvoline Maxlife and got all that dark used fluid out. I noticed at 19:50 you can see the back flow of the mixed old/new fluid coming back to your pump. I actually made my own using $11 HDX pump sprayer from Wal-Mart 🤪. Anyhow great tutorial as usual for the drain and fill on these beast👍🏻.

The dealer says the transmission oil is long life they don’t change it I don’t know now i have 2016 i am hesitate😌😌😌

I guess it depends on how long you expect the life of the car to be. I have heard to change it at 100k miles. You are also really only changing a portion of it since the torque converter retains some.

I have a 2008 V6 Touareg. Mechanic told me that to service the transmission he would have to move the clutch to get to the filter. Is this true? cause watching you service your Touareg, you never touched the clutch.

Automatics don’t have a clutch. Get a new mechanic !
