I understand some owners may not be bothered about chipping the paint in the boot but I know a lot will so this video is for you guys!
This is a video showing the unpacking and installation of a Titan Covers custom water proof load liner for VW Up! GTI
It's really easy but I found it very hard to do it as per the instructions. These suggest removing the velcro from the liner and fitting it to the car then attaching the liner. The problem with that is that you have no way of knowing where to attach it on the body - the velcro isn't even shaped apart from being folded on the corner which soon unfolds leaving you with one big long run.
Instead I peeled off the backing off the velcro's self adhesive side, offered up the liner to the body and stuck the velcro to the body that way.
The instructions suggest heating the interior if fitting on a cold day and degreasing the contact areas but I found the glue so good that I didn't need to do that, it's incredibly sticky!
There are some exposed areas still to the side of the flap so I might get some PPF/helicopter tape for these one day but it's still a lot better than before!
Oh, and don't shut the tailgate with the flap extended still as it will damage it - don't ask me how I know :)

Great videos keep them coming. I am collecting my VW up GTI on Friday Been a long wait so can't wait to finally drive it home, apparently it's almost 12 months waiting time now for a new one. Gone for the five door model though. But definitely after watching this video I'm seriously considering getting the liner for the boot.

Thanks for posting the video. I'm sure the liner is very effective and super waterproof, but it looks more people carrier/dog lover than GTI, IMHO :) The solution I have gone for is some anthracite stretch carpet (available on eBay) cut to shape and then glued on top of some Dynamat Xtreme sound deadening. This gives a more OE look, like a fully carpeted boot, and also provides a bit of additional sound proofing.

What do you think about modern VW cars' reliability?

I don't think they are as over engineered as they once were but as long as they aren't modified they seem quite good generally. 2.0 TSI manual clutches are very poor however. I wouldn't feel as confident remapping a modern one as I would a Mk5 GTI Edition 30. VW feel the same way hence how they now make a lot of effort to reject warranty claims on modified cars which is fair enough as the cars are not expensive especially if bought on PCP so you can't have it both ways.

Hi Josh, thanks for commenting. Sorry to disappoint but I wouldn't. I think a normal up! would be a good place to start your own car history. Then move onto the GTI if you want to. It's actually a tricky car to keep on the road compared to some other cars (including Golf GTIs with twice the power) and I know numerous young drivers that have mishaps in 60 bhp up!s. A base up! is a great car so not really too much of a downgrade especially if you get once with a nice spec :)

Seems a good solution!, fabric in black would look better tho. Another thing, are you gonna remap the Up? At a decent tuner ofcourse!

There are a few colours available. I don't want to upset anyone as this is just my opinion but there is no way I am remapping an up! GTI. Firstly it's bloody quick as it is, secondly the engine is probably the strongest part of the package and the chassis would struggle to deploy any more. In my opinion the engine has been set to produce as much power as the car can comfortably handle even though it could have produced more. In the wet as it is, it's a handful. Plus more power/torque equals more slip and more clumsy traction control intervention. Better tyres, possibly a Milltek exhaust and I'm done :)

Understandable, which tyres are mounted, Conti's? Milltek is quality!

Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance. They are primarily low rolling resistance ECO tyres and undoubtedly contribute to remarkable MPG. Perfectly fine in the dry to a point but in the wet they are lethal with a very unpredictable breakaway. Not ECO friendly for VW to have to build another up! to replace all those that will eventually crash due to these tyres, nor does a saving on fuel consumption get any close to the costs a driver will face if he crashes even if insured. Plus he TC is so clumsy, the best thing you can do is not trigger it and you can do that with better tyres :)

+Stephen Phoenix-Roberts: Thats a very good point. I should imagine as time goes on, they'l be aftermarket "Rubberised-Boot-Mats" for it, as there is already for most other cars for Subs/Tubes/Boxes etc....

Bought the same for my B6 Passat 4motion, fitted well, and well worth it,, you could have lined it a bit like a T5 or T6 vans,🤔, just saying, hopes it ok.

Steve Ashall why don’t you look at a front and rear dash cam. Most have the reversing picture displayed plus you keep your car safe (with parking mode)

The difficult thing with an OEM type install is trying to get it to either wirelessly link your iPhone or smart phone from the cradle. Let me know if your successful. The wife drives an VW High Up so would be interested 👌

Can't really help. All I can say is that if a car comes from the factory with a camera that displays on the infotainment screen, the head unit will be coded differently to one that doesn't.

I did but couldn't find one that protected the unpainted areas, just the carpet. Is there one that's as thorough as this one? If so it will probably be a lot more expensive.
