Got confused at the end of the vid (09:00 mark): efficiency is not related to battery size. It's nice that it all sort of ends up at 400 kilometers for the Id4 and the Tesla MY but to get there you would need to charge more into the ID4 (and certainly into the EV6 as we're seeing from Teslabjorn's video's). Kind of when a car running 1:20 with a 50 liter tank gets as far as a car running 1:10 with a 100 liter tank. The second one is going to be significantly more expensive to run.

Colder weather affects all types of cars - ICE powered as well as EVs. My previous car - a Prius - would happily do 60-65mpg in summer, then drop to 45-48mpg in winter. It's just you 'notice' it more in an EV because you have the GOM predicted range display on the dash, rather than noticing you're filling up with petrol / diesel more often in an ICE car....!

Currently on week 3 with an iD4 courtesy car. It's a 2021 Pro model with the 77kw battery. Cons: - Range is shocking and I’ve only averaged 2kw/mile in last 6 hours driving; which is an effective range of 140 - 150 miles! It's chilly and I'm being quite heavy footed to try and gauge a worst case value, but still, that’s unacceptable. Local country driving, no motorways. - The software / user interface is very, very, very laggy. It’s horrible. - The always “on” lane assist is crap. If I turn it off, I'd like it to stay off! - The display / multi-media user interface design is terrible. So bad I’ll probably never get used to the heating [lack of] controls. - At night it’s not possible to adjust the heating because the sliders do no illuminate and I don't want to use a voice assistant. (And passengers can't access the voice assistant button.) - Haptic buttons are terrible. - It’s not possible to see the controls near my right knee when driving (heated screen etc). - It's not quick once you've gone past 20 mph. - Speaker / sound quality is just average. - Odd electrical gremlins. - Some cheap plastics; especially the center of the dash near the windscreen which produces lots of reflections. - My first public charging experience was a disaster. Not VW’s fault. But getting an app, setting up an account, adding a credit card, pre paying to the account, and then the PodPoint charger wouldn’t release the cable once charged! Pros: - Ride is good at regular speeds. - A quiet drivetrain is great for local journeys. - Build quality seems fine. - Heated steering wheel is great. - Good rear legroom. Conclusion: The "cons" are sufficient to put me off wanting an electric VW car given it's only viable for local journeys. So, way too many compromises given the price of the car. I'm now contemplating cancelling my Model Y order.

@vicheaterx2 жыл бұрын
Second question, answer is yes, the sine wave is actually very clean (but stil has a reasonable output limit, keep it under 2.5 kW and you will be fine). First one, I would say it won't work with the car locked but some existing owners ask questions about weatherproofed appliances and appliance cables that they use outside of the car (it also has an interior V2L socket) so one would expect that to work with the car closed. However, I am sure the car also has some protection against electron-jacking :) by someone charging their car from your EV6 V2L's external socket :D Really curious to see how it is in reality.

Nice video again 👍. Have you seen BatteryLife's channel where he showed the amount of kWh put in to each car in comparison to the vehicle's stated efficient m/kWh? The Tesla's all put in 10-15% more kWhs than the actual trip meter reports via m/kWh reading. I.e. Teslas put energy into actively heating/cooling the battery during the charge process, energy which doesn't make it to the wheels. So they are efficient cars on the road but they will cost more at the 'pump' than what you'd expect given said efficiency. Is this something you can corroborate if so, worth factoring in to the group test videos?

The scheduled charging feature in the ID.4 is simply not fit for purpose. I've had mine back to the dealer. There was nothing they could do. There's been no software update since I bought it 6 months ago. If I switch on from indoors it only charges at an attenuated 1kWh rate. I have to go outside at night in all weathers to plug it in in the early morning to take advantage of my low night tariff - then I have to set an alarm at 4:30am to switch it off. I'm in the UK and VW did nothing to correct the wrong information about the Prolife model here. Unlike the one in the states there's no reversing camera or automatically dipping headlights or automatically switching on of windscreen wipers or MW radio. It's a disgrace for a £41k vehicle- I'll be getting a Model Y to replace it with.

Why don't you just set your units to metric than trying to mix miles with metric kW/hrs? Don't you see how idiotic it sounds. I'm in the UK too.
@RSEV2 жыл бұрын
Because we unfortunately still use imperial measurement in the uk. When driving our displays are in mph. The efficiency is reported in miles/kWh as a result. Not many can report at same time in different units. You choose metric or imperial in car settings basically. If I set the car(s) to display and report km then I won’t know if I’m driving at speed limit without converting. Impractical I think you’d agree, no? I also cannot convert mi/kWh to km/kWh or kWh/100km etc in my head whilst driving and filming. When time allows, we show converted numbers in text overlay on the edit, but it also isn’t too hard for someone to calculate to their preferred unit of measurement. Or am I still sounding idiotic?
