In this video i'm test driving the new VW Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. The VW Tiguan has been face-lifted in 2020 and pitched as a cool car for parents and so I test the £40k Tiguan to see if it lives up to the hype.

The 2022 boot is absolutely ridiculous, fold the seats down and you have a step a small puppy couldn’t climb up!! Can’t understand why vw did this??? And why change the steering wheel buttons, press button was much better! The car itself looks just the same apart from the front that looks more aggressive on the r-line, other than that the car looks just the same.. the more up to date tech is the only reason to buy one.. then get the boot kit so you can have a level boot floor..

Moving from a Mercedes sport to the entry level Tiguan (130 petrol) with a few upgrades as I become a Dad🤣. The car is much more practical, good boot space and leg room in the back but real pain controlling the radio channels, volume and mobile controls. It’s very unsafe reaching over. For a car at £26500 it’s sub standard in that regard. Tip for drivers of Tiguan - drivers arm rest on left can be clicked up. For long journeys this is essential.

I did get to drive a 2019 VW Golf TSI hire car a few weeks back, agreed on the adaptive cruise control being awesome, the Golf had the same feature and was very good on motorways. Can get a little bit weird on any town road though as it can get confused and try to suddenly stop the car and blare alarms at you when going past filter lanes. Tailgate assist is spot on, set it to minimum and see how long you can cope with it's separation distance!

I just bought a 10 month old Tiguan SEL with the 190 bhp diesel engine and the auto box and leather with just 345 miles on the clock from a VW dealer. The saving against the R line was incredible and it has most of the kit inside as well. I agree the R line looks fabulous in white with the body kit but not worth the extra £7000+ it would have cost me.

I have the 150 bhp 2.0 diesel fwd and on average I get 50mpg on motorway. Some days when the motorway arequiet and with ACC, getting just over 60mpg. I find this is better value than the Q5 as I also looked at that. The Tiguan R line get the panoramic sunroof as standard, which is around £1700 on the Q5. The Tiguan also has the same DSG gearbox and engine. For just under 40k, you can get a well spec’d Tiguan R line, save on insurance as it isn’t an Audi, and the additional car tax of around £320 with it falling under 40k. Yes Audi have nicer interior, but not that nice to justify the extra costs
@letsreviewit8925
@letsreviewit8925 3 жыл бұрын
We genuinely tried to achieve over 50mpg avg using the eco mode and if driven tentatively with limited traffic its possible. But on a daily commute it averaged 45-47 mpg every time. Understand the insurance argument, but this is quite specific to the buyer so we tend not to talk about it.

@@letsreviewit8925 correct all sub menus can be scrolled via the RHS buttons. I agree the heated mirrors control is annoying and yet the phone functions I find intuitive. I also have the model you tested here in 4 motion guise with the DSG. When I first got the car it did catch me out with gearing approaching a semi stop at roundabouts it hesitated and in my mind was borderline dangerous as you couldn't accelerate quickly on to a roundabout from near standstill. I have adapted my driving style accordingly. Sport mode is a token gesture and only holds the revs longer in reach gear. If you want to make progress the manual change option using the selector or paddles is best. To be fair I have a lotus Exige in the garage for fun. But as an everyday all rounder in all weathers I've found the 4 motion system a boon. Obviously the same system employed in transverse Audi Quattro cars so traction is good in all weather's. I'm 46 and my kids are all grown up now so have my garage toy to feed the mid life crisis. You are correct with regards pricing but for the same to spec an Audi etc to similar levels your looking at the used market. Ironically when looking at SUVs I found the Seat equivalent more fun to drive.

Also the Q3 is the comparison MQB platform car not the Q5. I test drove the Q3 and it wasn't as comfortable and more stiffly sprung with a tendancy to fidget about on poor surfaces. Better interior quality by miles though.

You missed the best feature. The front passenger seat folds forward flat allowing you to put an 2400mm or 8 foot length of wood inside the car with the hatch closed. I was going change my old Tiguan for an Audi Q5 but the front passenger seat doesn’t recline very far so I got another Tiguan and the R line is not that far behind the Audi just more practical. Those seat back tables are great for the kids at McDonalda

The T-Roc is a lovely car and quite a bit cheaper than the Tiguan but if you have young children with a car seat the Tiguan is a lot easier with bigger doors and a bigger boot. If you can stretch to it I’d personally say the Tiguan. But you wouldn’t be disappointed if you went for a the T-Roc

Rather harsh on performance, I have the 150bhp 4wd, DSG R-line Tech. In Sport mode it accelerates well, but it is hesitant in Normal mode, and I get 50mpg on the motorway. But I don't hammer it, and I stick to the speed limits, which isn't too common ! On the other hand, I thought you were kind in describing it as comfortable. It has a firm ride and hard seat cushions. I agree it is pricy at list, but it stacks up well on lease. Have had Audis in the past, and the Tiguan measures up well against them.
@letsreviewit8925

In my opinion the 150bhp FRONT wheel drive combination isn’t sufficient for the car it labours a lot and uphill reversing requires a lot of throttle. The 190PS is the better option again in my opinion. I found that the car rides well and corners flat, which I liked. I can’t really only comment on the prices I’m given but since the review I have seen some great finance deals on them.

I bought a Tiguan in march 2020 r line tech. I do agree with you on a few points. The window screen washer takes 10 years to wake up but the back window washer is fast weird. Mind is a auto an I average around 47 to 57 depending on the weather I think. Sunny the other day it did ,37 mpg shocking. 1st 2nd gear the car feels under powered I must admit but it's not a sports car it's a cruising car. Mine is the 2.0ltr d 150bhp. It doesn't rattle which is great and it's pretty good around corners. It sits just under 2000 revs at 75 mph which is normal for a 150 bhp diesel

Tried to order new R-Line Tech this week 22/6/20, too find out VW have stopped new orders (for production) from 17th June 2020, Its Stock Only - until 2020 facelift model is released ~ and typically V-W/ankers have not given a date yet & I'm fruitlessly searching for VAG Dealer with an (unregistered) Stock Only in (pearl white) Oryx, if no luck within next 3months or I'll maybe just order an All Space or even a BMW X1 (190Ps XDrive) X-Line, it has leather seats as standard ~ but big bucks for everything else on BMW's options lists. TBH if R-Line didn't have Tech Pack ~ they wouldn't be worth the money at prices VW is charging for all new models !

I've owned VW's for 20 years. I own one of these, the same as this except white. My advice, DON'T. They have cut corners everywhere. I'll be looking at buying a different brand in the future. On the surface it's probably the most beautiful looking SUV available but that's where it ends. It's only when you've owned it for a while that you think to yourself , I paid this much money for this? The interior has cheap nasty plastic everywhere. This is a good review and probably the reviewer will agree if he's honest.

I have a diamond white Tiguan 2021 1.5 litre with all the options. It's a beautiful car inside and out, although slightly underpowered for my taste. However, it's more than enough for me, the wife and our two small dogs. VW's are cars that you might not like much at first but they grow on you the more you drive them. Still remember my Golf GTI mark 2 which I had new in the 1980's. Wouldn't trade my Tiguan for anything. And they last you for years and years if you respect the service intervals and get the services done at main dealers where the prices are fairly reasonable. Resale value is also strong compared to other manufacturers. I don't understand what this guy is complaining about. Why doesn't he just fork out the extra extra extra money and buy an Audi Q7 or something?

You do look 29 ... ish! So you sound a tad like a badge junkie .. have you actually compared the Audi in comparison? I have. The Q5 is a beefed up Golf really .... ok maybe a tad bigger. The Tiguans interior is far more superior with the virtual dash, heating steering wheel and all the tech you covered in the demo. The Kodiaq doesnt come with rear side airbags as standard ? WHAT?? But the Tiguan does. Finally, I often hear comments like "Tiguan is the next best thing to a Range Rover" ... Well I agree and more reliable too! Hi Bill im sorry my personal opinions do not match your own. My reviews are entirely my own opinion, i'll never say I like something that I dont and all the features i point out do let the car down. If you want a one sided review there are plenty of automotive mags who'll tell you everything is perfect. This is a great car thats a little over priced considering the company it keeps, the VW brand and its sister companies produce well made cars and you wouldn't be disappointed if you bought one. Thanks for watching.

It would be fair to compare price of Q5 S line and Tiguan R line. In my opinion R line is much better looking car then entry Q5. Not only that, Tig R line is one of best looking SUV in general. Reliability vise both are equal. I agree interior materials of Q5 are better but Tiguan is not bad at all. By the way this is worst review of Tiguan on You tube. In reality it is best selling VW and if I'm not wrong best selling SUV in the Europe.

Joke by it’s very definition a review is a personal opinion. Don’t be offended just because I have a different view than yourself. It’s easy to be critical but I’m not in the business of saying I like something that I don’t. If you actually pay attention I don’t say it’s a bad car, quite the opposite. What I conclude is that if I was looking at a Tiguan I’d pay the extra for a Q5. 🙄

What a bullshit review. Knocking yourself out with the electric tailgate opener. Name one car which solves that “problem”.

Lets Review It no i don’t. But I do have some experience with it. Otherwise that wouldn’t be fair, would it ;-) it’s nothing personal but your review just doesn’t feel like it’s objective. Saying the dasboard feels like a grannies butt 🙄. She has a firm butt wouldn’t you say ;-). The satnav finally is quick, doesn’t have errors and it’s connected with Google!

Reviews are not objective they’re entirely personal opinion. If you don’t like the style of the review that’s fine move on to any one of the carbon copy reviews created by all the mainstream press outlets. Wether you agree or not all of the things I mention are features that could be better.

Lets Review It When you make a review, it should be objective because potential buyers are looking for that objective review. Saying things that things could be better is kind of blank shot right. There’s always room for improvements. Doesn’t matter if you take a €100.000,- car of a €15.000,- one. The thing is that the things that you mention need to be reasonable. Again, busting your head open on a electric tailgate isn’t one of those, in my opinion. And saying that I need to go on to other Carbon copycats only makes you a sore looser. That is my opinion.
