I always thought the VW bus was a cool vehicle. I always wanted one growing up. Nowadays if you can find one in decent shape they bring a good price. Depending on the model they can be really expensive. A old friend of mine was a welder/fabricator and he had one that he put a Porsche engine in and of course he had upgraded the brakes and other stuff to handle the power and increased speed that it was now capable of. He also built a dune buggy that was based on the VW bug chassis. It was not the fiberglass tub type it looks more like a sand rail. I was shocked by the places that thing would go. I am looking forward to seeing a video when it is ready for the road.

They are outrageously expensive. I love them, but they are not worth the 20k some people think they are worth.

True. I think now that I am older, I would have a hard time going without the features of the newer mini motor homes, or conversion vans. Especially when the newer ones can be loaded with all the comfort features and can be found used for about what a good VW bus would cost. They are still cool vehicles, but I am not sure I would want to travel long distances in one. But it would probably limit the chance of getting a speeding ticket.
