Our FIL found our 68 in the california desert. Was given to him for free. Got a call that night that we were owners of a 68 Westy. It was definitely used. But aside from the dents it only has surface rust. So we got lucky that way.

That was what my bus, Marge, looked like when I got her.....well not so much rust. 😊 But she’s a beaut now Clark!! I didn’t have a middle seat either but I kinda like the extra space. The rear seat folds into a bed - my dogs love it! She is now teal and white. Paint this one something really nice....😂❤

68 is a one year only bus. Sadly after restoring one for a customer my father murdered one with a light pole on a test drive. Thankfully he was okay, the bus not so much. Going to be putting my first car a 72 super back on the road by the end of the year. Then my grandfathers 71 super is next. Your guys page is awesome. Love seeing them saved.

My 1978 VW Riviera sat under a tree for who knows how many years before I bought it. It ran like crap, but nothing new electric components and setting the timing and points properly couldn’t solve. New tires, clutch cable, brake pads and shoes, and of course replacing all fuel hoses and I was on the road. With no rust other than the auxiliary battery was gone from rust. No rust. Cars don’t rust in Wyoming even when they are living under a tree. Do you ever check Craigslist in dry states like West Texas, NM, AZ, NV, etc. it might be worth the drive to buy a bus with no rust. And a new adventure for VW Life You Tube. Just a thought.😎

The nose will need to be removed, and probably replaced. Looking at the rust through the cowl under the windshield, and the rust around the front ventilation, there is probably a real mess behind the outer skin on the nose. It's what you can't see that is always the problem ;-)

I'm in upstate NY. 4 years ago I was in the presence of an unrestored VW bus ('74 IIRC) whose circumstances were roughly equivalent to this '68. It was in APPRECIABLY worse condition. The fact that there are still any up here that haven't totally disintegrated still amazes me

Love a 68. Has it got all its 1yr only 68 bits on it? My 68 was originally from Texas then ended up in California before being shipped to the UK. Mines pretty mint everywhere, no rust to speak of. You can buy adapters to fit a Beetle engine to a Bay.

The rust of the enclosure around the floorboard unibody such as all metal wheel wells. The good reason is Fiat and Beetle combination. The alloy is pure steel instead of planning metallurgy type of sheet metal at Fiat is all aluminum pans and skeleton of the Beetle plus stainless steel is what the car is made out of. Mexico Volkswagen was a plant of offering the all steel and plated with Phosphorus baked coat over or Porcelain sheet metal for Volkswagen restoration and Concepting the new car into replica of fiberglass seating reinforcement connection plates for mounting as well for seating the engine.

Sister have Caravan and beforehand she wrecked Grand Voyager. I am more careful driver than my older sister. The seat behind the driver seat left hand steering VW club wagon Deluxe aluminum and chromed handles outside only. Use plastic both side mirror that holds glass mirror for VW and no vintage is requirement. That I have extra pair of mirrors standard coming off my motorcycle 250cc. Then my American made mirrors is able install only in the hole of the end of handlebar. The new bar will have to weld to a pipe. Then the bar is screw down to my handle throttle instead to the end of my handlebar. The pipe will therefor be clamp hole to support my mirrors. The rear seat is remove easily like a Caravan modern link it down to the clamp clevis. The floor board of the Microbus need to mount a dig and a rod across in the dig. The rod transverse to the front back example line of the bus. No no Westfalia because too much expenses. Sleeping on the pan floor of the camper plus just blanket and pillow. Thank you.
