btw "for the love of music" was one of the first songs started for fish whisperer. during the spring of 2021 i was pretty sick and eden wrote a little "get well soon" song for me. i took that at sampled it. that's what you're hearing at the start of "for the love of music" :3 it is sampled throughout the song and serves as a foundation for the track!

“can opener’s notebook: fish whisperer” is a concept album about a neurodivergent unicorn named can opener (canni). once an overachieving marine biologist, the ocean-fixated canni leaves home to pursue their lifelong dream of being a musician, in a quiet cabin on the yakyakistan coast. their fixation on using electronics and broken instruments to create music, while simultaneously becoming detached from their skills as a scientist, earns the disapproval of their parents. canni finds work as a marine biologist and angler in yakyakistan, quickly becoming invested in improving the fishing industry in the country. however, this work begins to take precedence over canni’s desire to create music, leaving them burnt out and depressed. can opener falls into an isolated and sensitive state of mind, rarely leaving their home and becoming self conscious of their fixations and interests outside of their profession. this spiraling anxiety causes them to become speculative about the opinions other yaks have about them. this only causes them to further isolate themselves, becoming evem lonelier. they reach out to their ex-girlfriend, vylet lulamoon, who advises them to journal their abstract thoughts in a physical way (such as on a typerwiter). through this, canni learns of a strange magic they possess which emanates from them at their most contemplative and spaced out moments. the magic appears in the form of little golden fish that swim around their horn, causing the unicorn’s mane to become weightless, as if floating under the sea. one fateful day, their friend yona encourages them to attend the annual hippogriff cultural festival, an event that is held to celebrate the friendship of yaks and hippogriffs. reluctantly, can opener agrees to go. - “fish whisperer” is about overcoming art block, being transparent about yourself, and learning to find love in every corner of life; becoming saturated in the things you love to do and see. throughout their journey, canni explores their spectral magic, reconnects with the ones they love, and follows the call of a mysterious rainbow fish.

And it's done. Even though the album's only been out for less than a year this has kind of become my "comfort album" (not just a single song but the whole album) that I come to whenever I'm worn out, upset, or just need a lift, all the themes resonante with my own experiences and thoughts so I feel right at home when its on. Every song is great individually, but when listened to in order as a single piece of art it's such a wonderful musical experience. This album has been your masterpiece, Trixie. Back at the beginning of summer, I moved to the coast for work. I’ve always been tirelessly obsessed with the ocean, and now, for the first time ever, I get to experience it constantly (in my professional life and in my personal life). Leaving my friends and town has been quite the experience, but for the first time ever I feel like I’m in a place where I have the opportunity to make the impact I want to make. Things are changing for me so rapidly, and it’s hard to know how to feel when half of those changes are for the best and the other half are absolutely devastating. I’m impressed at how apropos the timing and theming of this album were to my specific experiences. For months, I listened in anticipation of moving. And then, as I drove to the coast I blasted it one more time and I cried so hard. Thank you, and congratulations, to everyone who worked on this beautiful album. Can't wait for the next project!

Man, this song is just feels like the kind of thing you put on the spot because it just feels like you had fun making it, the way you feel like you almost laughed at the start and the end of the song, even if those may have felt like you were holding back a coughing fit or something. This album's been quite the memorable journey, albeit a short one, of Canni coming out of the darkness and finding enjoyment in life without looking too much on the negatives, finding friends and making memories...sigh, it's been a blast. Sorry if that was rather cheesy, I agree that I could've made it more lactose-tolerant but I suppose that'll do. Just like all of your songs, this album has been played almost anywhere I bring my phone out to. On the road, at home, just about anywhere. And just...no matter the location or situation, it amazingly always seems to fit. By the first time I really delved deep into your content, by the time I noticed that you make these songs as if you're telling a story, I knew you were different from the rest. And truly, this is the biggest reason as to why I keep coming back for your content. That, along with the fact that your imagination and 'innovation' seems to know no limits. I've been binging on most of your music a lot today, and I really how relaxing and enjoyable Fish Whisperer is. And comparing it to another album I really enjoy, Love Letters: Colourless, I really like how the endings are opposites of each other, how Canni shakes away their darkness and feeling of weakness to pursue a passion in music, while Rainbow Dash stews in the darkness she made herself due to her failure to respond to Rarity in time. Carousel is a joy to listen to, but there's something about Fish Whisperer and Colourless that I really enjoy coming back to again and again. I can't wait to see what comes next... Keep it up!
