Well said... I now at this point own 4 sets of V Z Grips and like them very well .. I also own the same firearm you own model and caliber .. My first set of VZ grips was the 320 model which i really enjoy but after a year i ordered a set with the tactical diamonds and like those better as the diamonds give a more positive grip .. I carry every day in a high ride pancake holster the diamonds do not rub against my side in fact i don't even notice the firearm ..Hyena /Brown is the color of those grips ... Good choice .. I have had wood all my life on handguns some exotic woods too but i'm very happy with the G-10 material and grip quality , fit , form , function. No loc-Tite is required on the screw .. Let us know how well you do at the range now .

@JoshBenware3 жыл бұрын
@@Ammo08 it's a bit compact, but for carry, that is the tradeoff. I havent had much problems with the finger grooves. My problem is more how slim the grip is. I have large palms with long skinny fingers. I bought some pachmayr renegades. They are larger, which makes them easier for me to shoot and absorb recoil. Problem is concealment. I ended up going back to these.

@@JoshBenware Finally getting around to responding. I got the grips, mine are black. Honestly, they're great. The finger grips work out well for me and the recoil is not hard to manage at all. I reload my own 357s and 38s, I tend not to reload the target ammo past 1200 fps for the 357. The grip works fine at these pressures...however, at 1400-1500 fps the recoil is substantial. However, I do not think that in an emergency I will be too worried about recoil. I carry my Model 66 in a leather belt holster, it doesn't print under a big shirt...it is a really good grip.

georgejohnsmith thanks! As far as underwood, the videos I've seen on underwood show it chronoing well under advertised velocity. Usually in other calibers it chronos above advertised. Not sure why it's so weak in 357 mag. I just got a 100 pack in the mail of Remington umc 125 grain semi-jacketed hp. They are old school, but I think they are very well designed. They are the ones Paul Harrell used on his 9 vs 357 video. He was getting around 1470 average. I've seen others get over 1500 average (scuba oz). I have a playlist were scuba oz tests it in gel. The jacket not covering the tip seems to make it expand better and even fragment violently. I'm not big on fragmenting ammo, but at that velocity, who cares about weight retention? It seems those fragments actually help at that velocity as opposed to gimmicky rounds that purposefully fragment.

georgejohnsmith life's too short to only ever carry a...well, you know. I'm going to take it out to the range one more time tomorrow before I carry it. Need to try out the new ammo. I normally run 100 rounds of carry ammo in my, you know, before I carry with that ammo. I think in a revolver that only running 50 of the carry round should be good enough. I'm not having to worry about whether it feeds well or anything. As long as the primer ignites and poa/poi is good, I think 50 rounds is good to go for testing we ammo.
@georgejohnsmith6 жыл бұрын
As to the Underwood revolver velocities: the only advertised revolver cartridge velocities you can trust are from Remington, Winchester, and Federal. Those companies have agreed on using the 4" vented test barrel to establish their advertised velocities. Smaller companies, on the other hand, usually use unvented (and longer) barrels, which give significantly higher velocities.

If you need to get a better grip on your gun I recommend the Captains of Crush grip strengthening products. I like those grips. I used blue Loctite on my 1911 grips as a temporary solution to the screws backing out. I think the blue Loctite would work on a permanent or semi permanent basis as well. I think VZ has some black and grey grips like that too. If I can ever get another 686 plus I'll be purchasing the black and grey if they have them. Is that the one with a 4" barrel?
@JoshBenware6 жыл бұрын
Mr. Cool it does have the 4 in barrel. The grips have held up well so far. The screws hasn't backed out at all, but if it does I will definitely use blue loctite. I don't really have grip strength issues. I do static holds when I deadlift at the gym. I've hit 505 lbs and was able to do a static hold on the lock out for 10 seconds. Funny thing is is that my grip was actually to tight. When I first started using these grips instead of the rubber ones, I was squeezing so tight that the bottom joint of my thumb was absorbing all of the recoil which was damaging the joint. After loosening my right hand grip I haven't had any problems.

There is a lot of truth in the video you uploaded yesterday, I kind of regret that you removed it. Certainly, there were things in it with which many would have argued, but it was full of good observations, thoughts, and interesting questions. Maybe you should break it down into more videos which question single specific points: 1. the significance of Luck in life, and in shootouts 2. not every man (and particularly woman!) was created to handle guns or to kill (on the topic I recommend this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIfMqo19oqebrNU ) 3. how much does training help/matter? (Probably this is the point which you have felt so weak that you removed the video. I think it deserves discussion - what kind of training, for what?) It is good that you contemplate these things, you should not get shied away so easily from expressing your thoughts. Take the YankeeMarshal as your role model, he does not have too many good ideas (or observations), he talks bullshit all the time, yet he is not concerned about it for a microsecond. You could probably do better than him, because you care.
@JoshBenware6 жыл бұрын
georgejohnsmith definitely good advice! I went into that video without organizing my thoughts. I don't think my message was delivered clearly. I've made a decision not to edit videos, but now I'm realizing, if I want to take that route I need to get the topics better organized. For example, I have no idea how I promoted the 2nd point you listed. I've actually seen that some women have ran slr better than most men. When I watch the videos back again, I realize that I didn't articulate some of my points well at all, and kind of scattered and interrupted the thought multiple times.
@georgejohnsmith6 жыл бұрын
It is not a big problem if you do not edit your videos. But you definitely need to think it through first, and if necessary, write a sketch which contains the main points, lists references. It is OK to peek into a paper while talking. As to the 2nd point: you talked a lot about how many policemen are not able to hit a full size (obviously unanimated) human silhouette plate, often DESPITE their training. That is a rather interesting point for me, because there is an idea of "dedicated shooters" within the law enforcement circles, which would allow police officers NOT to carry a weapon at all in certain situations (at least), when a highly proficient officer, the dedicated shooter, is present.
@JoshBenware6 жыл бұрын
georgejohnsmith I've never heard of a dedicated shooter before. Do you mean police sniper, or just a go to guy for violent situations? What I've noticed is that usually the police officers that take training are pretty decent, usually. I've seen some that are horrible, but usually the ones that bother to take training do pretty well as far as pistols go. Military on the other hand seem to be horrible with pistols, but not so bad with long guns. I've noticed also that despite what people think, the federal police officers are usually pretty damn good with firearms. I haven't trained with any fbi agents, but ICE agents and ATF agents are usually pretty good. Local and state police are rarely any good. Military spec ops guys are sometimes decent, sometimes not (with pistols). Just my observations of what I've trained around personally. As far as women, they are usually great with rifles. They seem to pick up quicker, and shooting multiple targets accurately from a distance seems to be something women excel at very quickly. Women on pistols, usually not very good, even with lots of training. Very few have I seen that can run a pistol well.
@georgejohnsmith6 жыл бұрын
The dedicated shooter concept means an ordinary officer (not a sniper), who is doing well above the average in (handgun) shooting skills, and could protect other, unarmed officers in situations which involve many officers, but the expected risk of violence is fairly low. It would in theory remedy issues like contagious shooting, loss of firearms to criminals, and ineffective shooting (collateral damage). It is very political. Why not make a video about your observations? With some provocative title: Army personnel suck with handguns... you know, along these lines. :-) FBI and ATF agents should be very competent with firearms in general, but FBI has degraded a lot in my opinion. I mean, drinking eight beers is not an excuse for missing a police officer with multiple shots from a measly 30-35 yards. Right?
