"The Old Time Religion" the last sermon preached by Dr. W. A. Criswell (1909-2002). He preached it at the 1998 Pastor's Conference at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida on Feburary 3rd, 1998. He was almost 90 years old. He recounts his salvation experiance and early years of preaching, including a time when he doubted his salvation and how that was resolved. Sermon is uploaded in 4 parts. I was present at the service and enjoyed it very much. Dr. Criswell was a Southern Baptist Preacher and Pastor who was twice elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention (1968 and 1969) and pastored the First Baptist Church of Dallas Texas for 50 years (1944-1994). God has removed His great preachers of the past like this gentleman from the earth, and is all but finished with the west and is now reaching the other hemispheres as the church age draws to a close. The return of Jesus Christ for his bride draws near and we must be both thankful to God for men like Pastor Criswell and be ready for the roll that calls us up yonder.

I am reading W.A. Criswwell's autobiography, which is called Standing on the Promises. It is one of the best books I've ever read. I've wept through parts and laughed in others. It's an older book, published in 1990. I got mine used through Amazon. If you get a chance, read it.

He was unique. Sincere, astute, simple. I would bring juvenile delinquents from the Dallas Youth Village on Wednesday nights and Dr. Criswell would greet them, wrap his arms around them, look them in the eye, listen to them - and they loved him (BTW-most were black kids). They respected him, listened to every syllable that flowed from his mouth, and asked me about him constantly. If he was the designated speaker for the night, they would fight (almost) to be 1 of the 10 who could go see him.

I hope you pour a bowl of cereal and pour milk on it, and then realize that the milk is sour, and that it was the last of the cereal, so you have to go out to get more, but they're out of your favorite cereal and you have to get bran flakes.
