►Mercury is a defunct division of the American automobile manufacturer Ford Motor Company. Created in 1938 by Edsel Ford, Mercury was marketed as a middle priced brand for nearly its entire existence, bridging the price gap between the Ford and Lincoln model lines. Competing against Oldsmobile within General Motors, Mercury also competed most directly against Chrysler's DeSoto, Hudson and Studebaker.
From 1945 to its closure, Mercury was half of the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford, forming a combined sales network distinct from Ford. Through the use of platform sharing and manufacturing commonality, Mercury vehicles shared components and engineering with Ford or Lincoln, serving as counterparts for vehicles from both divisions.
In 2010, Ford Motor Company announced the closure of the Mercury brand in an effort to focus on the Ford and Lincoln brands, ending production at the end of 2010. The final Mercury automobile, a 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis, rolled off the assembly line on January 4, 2011. Mercury remains an active, registered trademark of Ford.

My brother had a ‘60 Mercury in 1966. We cruised Nan Nuys Boulevard and sometimes Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset…but Van Nuys was the preferred. Listening to KHJ Boss Radio, getting a 10 cent Coke and staying out late. Thanks for the great shots of the Mercury models - good memories!

My favorite vehicles from Mercury are the 92-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis, 67-70 Mercury Cougar, 66-67 Mercury Comet, 68-69 Mercury Cyclone, 02-04 Mercury Marauder, 69-70 Mercury Marauder, 67-69 Mercury Marquis,and Park Lane, the 70-72 Mercury Montego, and the 48-68 Mercury M100 (which is the Canadian version of the Ford F100 Eh 🇨🇦).

Don’t forget about the compact Mercury Comet of 1971-77, and it shared the body with Ford Maverick, but it is fairing too well as of 1960s.

I love Mercury's, I truly believe that if Ford would have left it as being a cheaper version of Lincoln as opposed to a more expensive Ford, it would still be around. But also the younger buying market is insane. Didn't want to drive a minivan, but will drive a cross over which looks a lot like a station wagon, and now everyone is calling front wheel drive and resr wheel drive ,sport utility vehicles, but the original SUVs are Jeep and Bronco, vehicles that can go off road. I just want to move to 1970s-town and drive less complicated vehicles.
