Dear Melody, I came across your channel by accident not so long ago & since then, I've been watching your videos on a regular basis. I admire you for your success in your studies and especially in the way you master the English language. Like you, I attended Chinese kindergarten and primary school when I was small and most of the time didn't understand any English. Although I was admitted to the English section of a Chinese secondary school, my English was still not very good when I graduated from form V. I did not have a chance to further my education & I started working as a secretary from the age of 18. Miraculously, even with my limited knowledge in English, I had only worked for either English or American bosses 😂. My English improved a bit thanks to my working environment but the real kick-off came when I worked in Paris, France in an international organisation in which all my colleagues were English speakers from all over the world. I'm 73 now and have retired for 13 years already. My husband is French & we live in France, so I don't really have that much occasion to speak English any more. In order for me not to lose my English , I speak most of the time in English to my husband who ( fortunately for me) can also speak very good English . Melody , I would like to praise you for your motivation to help students and all those who are interested in acquiring more confidence in speaking English. Keep up your good work and bravo in your endeavour!

That reminded me of how bad my English language was, terrible. I couldn’t even spell out all the alphabets in public school back in Hong Kong as a kid! However, after we moved to Canada 🇨🇦 in just one month time, my language skill improved tremendously. I supposed because I was so young at the time, probably it must be quite easy to pick up a foreign language when you were young. Looking back right now as a grown up person, my suggestion is keep reading anything at all times, that is the only way to learn efficiently, fast.

I have always admired Melody from the bottom of my heart. Keep up with your impressive work! :) I believe there are at least 3 crucial factors of making Melody’s English learning journey smooth and fulfilling, the following: 1. Cultivation of a good reading habit at an early age (Early Exposure) - In some people’s eyes, beginning to develop this habit in Primary 2 or 3 could be already very late. But the best moment to start making a change is NOW. Having realised that this might be an issue obstructing her learning progress, she and her parents acted immediately! With proper guidance, the little girl fell in love with reading. So, as time went by, she developed interest in English. Exposure to this language was later no longer a burden but an entertainment. 2. Persistence and Perseverance (a dogged determination) - Being afraid to speak an unfamiliar language in front of others is perhaps the No.1 inner fear to many, if not all, beginners. We constantly worry about making grammatical mistakes or being the laughing stock thanks to our “uncomfortable” pronunciation. People also mourn about being raised in a non-English-speaking environment, not having friends of native speakers, or the government not investing sufficient sources in language enhancement blablabla…Melody did not complain about it at all. Instead, she has been continuously making great efforts to upgrade herself. With some good reasons for learning English, we will be inspired and willing to stun others! 3. Luck of having insightful parents - The importance of the role of parents can never be overstated. On average, quite a number of parents would just tell their children to work harder, work harder, and WORK HARDER. But does this phrase even sound motivating? I cast doubts on that. Even though M’s parents failed to provide a so-called “ideal” English speaking environment, they taught, or should I say, properly guided, her with patience to look for nourishment from books, where an abundant amount of humans’ wisdom is kept. If you are still self-doubting due to numerous trivial things, then I am afraid to ask you here to STOP learning English. Learning a language is hard, so hard that you need to consistently put effort into it. Your time for other interesting things in life will be sacrificed. Therefore, as Melody says, you MUST find some reason(s) to support your willingness. Otherwise, I don’t think you can copy and paste M’s success. Success can be copied and pasted. But to copy it seriously. My personal experience of learning a foreign language - Japanese: I have told myself 3 times over the past decade that I was going to learn it. Guess what? I quit just a few days after picking up a book and let it contain dust in a corner of my room. And I now can’t even remember the 50 sounds (I was able to recite them.) -_- This shows exactly how important it is to have a willing heart. Just be more confident, for you won’t know what fruitful outcomes await you as you learn the language. Hope more people will learn English with ease, or at least be inspired by her videos (and my comment) haha😂

Your grade 1 was very tough. I had the same very terrible experience in my class till 17. It was very important to drag out our own fault in English and fix it by all means seriously. Some just ignored it and let go easily that could ruin the english foundation from the begining. Your videos were excellent, especially for the Cantonese English learners. Thank you for sharing. By the way, your parents were so beautiful ⚘👍 .
Hi Melody, I'm a Year 2 Nursing student and has been watching your videos since form 3. Your videos are brimming with positive energy which pushes me through the excruciatingly, mentally torturous DSE🥲🥲🥲 And this video kind me reminds me of the heyday of my English level XD Really enjoyed digging into (overly) voluminous dictionaries back in primary and secondary schools!
I deeply agree with one of your methods, which is to improve English writing skills through writing a food blog. It's truly a fantastic way to learn.Writing a food blog not only keeps English leading efficienting and interesting but also helps to learn new nouns and descriptive words practically. That's why I prefer to leave my thoughts in English here. You're not only a great English teacher but also a source of positive energy. Keep up the good work and keep producing content
May I know if I'm 40 already, and want to train as a native accent, do u have any suggestions? if my last result of IELTs is 6 to 6 5, how can I achieve above 8 within one year?

Really appreciate your positive mentality and attitude in learning English! And I wanna express my views as well! I reckon learning efficiency depends much on how fortunate you are also. If you are lucky enough, you may have open-minded parents supporting and assisting you during your learning process. In fact, the reality is that not every parent is like that, more importantly, not every learner has this type of parents. BUT that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. What I have learnt from my own experience is that people may be fortunate in their success or successful moments, but continually enduring every difficulty before you is what shows your true competence! It may be a bit vague to say that. Overall, the main point is the process of learning is much more meaningful and imperative compared to the results of learning (of course both good or bad). It’s a cliche, but not everyone truly learn this fact, after observing my friends who lose faith in learning English. So it’s always encouraging for everyone to explore the entertaining elements of English first before something more academic. For instance, I like playing games and reading comics, so why don’t do both with English subtitles! More enjoyable and less dull! If you’re into a thing, you keep being curious of the uncharted territory and consider any difficulties as challenges that don’t bother you at all because you enjoy it! Another thing I wanna mention is something most people have neglected, which is the The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). When you search words on the website of Cambridge Dictionary, do pay attention to the C1, C2 things as well. That helps you distinguish between words of basic level and proficient level! 🙈These are my opinions only, maybe subjective. Hope who have read it find this comment useful! Good luck to everyone who wants to learn English!
Hi Melody, Thank you for your video. It encouraged me. I like it very much. Sorry that I don't know you before, but now I subscribe to your KZbin channel.
