Hey Arthur! Great listening lesson. I really like the idea of the semi-slow "clear" telling of the story followed by the "natural speed" telling. Adding in comic relief with your recording struggles is also a great idea. I guess showing people that we also struggle to speak Japanese sometimes can be empowering in itself. Ooooh! Congrats!! I am so excited for you!!! Don't worry. You'll be great:) I'm sorry about what you had to go through when you were new to the country. But I'm so glad that you were feeling pretty safe to wonder around in unfamiliar places. I like videos like this, focusing on listening at natural speed. Personally, though, I'd prefer to have the faster version first, because after listening to the slower one, I already know what you are talking about. It's probably better to realize what I'm not hearing first then to listen to the slower one to go over those words/phrases. Another thing is that many English native speakers speak so much less clearly than you with lots of liaisons, contractions, and omission especially when they speak casually. I'd like to work on that, too. But maybe you just wanted to focus on the speed this time. Maybe it's better to stick with one thing at a time.

楽しいエピソードをありがとうございました。楽しみながらリスニングの練習が出来ました。始めのトークは今のスピードのままで、その後のリスニング用のエピソードは、速いのを先に、ゆっくりのを後に、、がいいかなと思います。速いのを先に聞くと、普通のスピードのが遅く思えてより一層聞き取りやすくなると思います。遅い方が練習になる方は後半を繰り返し聞かれたらわかりやすくていいかなと思います。

First of all, Congratulations!! I can imagine how much you are looking forward to seeing a new born baby. That was an interesting story. Your story reminded me of the time when I used to live in Tokyo. I went to an Izakaya in Shinjuku with my friends and I also missed the last Yamanote line. I decided to walk home from Shinjuku to Kita-ku. But it was a stupid idea. It took me for hours to get to Ikebukuro, There was no google map on the phone in 1990's. I really didn't know how to walk home from Ikebukuro to my apartment. So, I ended up taking a taxi at Ikebukuro St. Congrats again and I hope your wife is going to give a healthy baby birth.

あまり土地勘のない、アーサーさんにとっては外国で、友達との連絡先も分からない、終電を逃した、その中で4時間も歩いて帰るなんてびっくり。交番の女性に赤信号で止められたのも笑ってしまいました。 最初のゆっくり英語とっても聞きやすかったです。ネイティブスピードと両方をもっとたくさん聞いてリスニング頑張っていきます。動画アップありがとうござます☺

アーサーさん、なつみさん、おめでとうございます🎉お二人とも日本語も英語も話せるので、お子様も早いうちから少しずつ話せるようになるのが羨ましい限り✨ アーサーさんの発音は💡とてもクリアで聞きやすいです。ミスしてしまった時のリアクションも表情豊かでいつも楽しく拝見しています。 今回は、最初に日本語字幕を見ずにネイティブスピードから聞きました。 スピードにはついていくことはできましたが、話の内容は単語をかいつまんで推測する癖があって何となく理解できました。次に最初に戻ってゆっくりスピードで聞いた時は、話しの内容も大体理解でき、書き取りもできました。 英語を話す時は毎回いつも変な緊張があります。 英語で答えられない自分に焦りを感じることもありますが、話すうえでのポイントをアーサーさんの過去のPodcastから学んで活かしたいと思います。 親になる時はみんな不安が大きいと聞きます。 お子さんから学んでだんだんと親になると言いますし、アーサーさんならきっと良いお父さんになれます！

おめでとうございます。赤ちゃんが世に出てきたとたん、アーサーさんみたいに”一緒に世界とつながりましょー”って言ったら驚きですね。それはそれでかわいいかも？ 4時に家に帰れたというのはちょっと辛いですね。池袋ならカプセルホテルもあっただろうから、安全を買うという意味でそこで寝た方が良かったかもしれませんね。そんな施設は日本に来たばかりじゃ知らなかったかな？もしあの時の池袋がアメリカだったら道には東西か南北の方角が書いてあったからまだ迷わなかったかも？そう考えるとアメリカの町づくりはしっかりしているよね。そんな事言ってもしょうがないか？ あ、遅い会話と速い会話を流すのなら速い方から流したほうが視聴者（ユーコネクトの生徒さん？）のモチベーションが上がるのではないでしょうか？そちらの方が聞き取れない人でもその人の勉強になると思いますよ。もし、逆をやりたい人はもう一度見ればいいのだし。 お子様が楽しみですね。それより、奥様の健康が一番です。奥様が元気よく出産出来て元気なお子様が生まれる事をお祈りしています。

I understood it all, but why can't I speak English...! Could you switch the order because after listening to the first slow pace, I don't know if I could understand the native speed or if I could understand even only the fast pace? おめでとうございます！ 最初のゆっくりスピードと後のネイティブスピードにあまり差がない感じがしました。ネイティブスピードが本当のリアルスピードじゃないのでは？アーサー先生は日本人向け英語を教えている時間が長いので、無意識に日本人向けに聴き取りやすい話し方をされているのではないでしょうか？カメラに向かってではなく、友人のアメリカ人に話しているのを録画するのはいかがでしょう？それならリアルスピードになりそうです。逆に最初のゆっくりスピードは、英語初学者にはかなり早いです。このシリーズの続編を楽しみにしています！

Your speech sounded like scripted as opposed to your intention. I would like to listen to more relaxed speech pattern, casual talks with a lot of hesitations, contradictory statements and relaxed pronunciations. あいうえおフォニックス is doing the good job for that matter, but I prefer more mature feel.

The slow speech definitely sounds that way. Because I am much slower. And I did write key points down. Maybe if I do the faster version first it won’t feel that way
