@land9303 жыл бұрын
@@jesipohl6717 the point is he should be able to do those things- everyone should. If you've ever dealt with trauma productively you'd know the only way through is communication and expression of those traumatic experiences. Comedy is way to do that. The goal shouldn't be to silence comedians and avoid particular subjects the goal should be providing people with the help they need so that they can make jokes about themselves and others without it being taken as a literal personal attack. The argument is weird to me. When I hear the argument of people who hate the special it comes down to two points. 1. Dave did jokes that I didn’t like towards my community. 2. Even if the jokes wasn’t him saying he was gonna hurt trans people since he’s criticizing the community and bringing up some things the trans community hates it encourages people who already hate the community and encourages new people to hate the community. Which are dumb arguments to me honestly. 1. If you don’t like the jokes then don’t watch. 2. People who unreasonably hate will find reasons to hate regardless. Dave says offensive stuff to all groups. And he said jokes that could be considered offensive to like every group in that special. And the one before.

Not sure whether I'm right or not, just that I'm me. Spent early years and young adulthood in an area (coastal Northernmost Ca.) where the rule was "If it doesn't hurt anybody, people can do what they want." I may not understand trans people on a visceral level, but it doesn't bother me. I worked in a porn store in a highly conservative area for a number of years, met a lot of trans and homosexual people, since the store was sort of a safe haven. Look, I always though I was just a "regular guy". I find women attractive. I have a hormonal uptick early in the day, which increases desire just like most males. However, unlike most males (apparently), meeting a random woman at a bar and then having sex with her never appealed to me. In fact, for me, it's a physical impossibility. Literally. She could be drop-dead gorgeous with a Mensa mind and I would be unable to perform. I thought that was normal. For almost four decades. Sure, I'd seen adult films, but those are movies. Movies seldom represent a realistic view of reality, so naturally I considered the "plots" a mere contrivance, probably for budgetary reasons. I did not have any idea that many other men in the position of the male lead would take full advantage of the situation. If a guy is homosexual, he knows it. If he's in an area that frowns on his desires, he may seek to conceal it. If he's in an area where there are people who will shove him into a stack of tires and set fire to them, he definitely will. If a guy feels that he's actually a woman, I can understand that intellectually as well, although that is too far removed from my own experience to fully grasp it. Either way, his difference from the "norm" is sufficient for self-realization. If you're demisexual, you might not. I'm not claiming victimhood or anything. In fact, my "aberration", especially since I'm on the hetero side of it, is so acceptable to the mainstream as to be considered a virtue by the most conservative members of society. Which is hilarious. It's a sexual orientation which differs from the norm, just like any other in the LGTBQ spectrum. It doesn't do any harm to anyone, just like any other in the LGTBQ spectrum. And the thing is, whether traditional heterosexual or the most widely divergent from that, there are a certain set of characteristics which will sexually arouse you. So that's the same. Regardless of what those characteristics are, as long as the sex is consensual, it won't hurt anyone not involved, so is no one else's business. From an empirical standpoint, all orientations are the same. We are all the same.

From what I saw on that special, all he was doing was relaying a story about a trans friend, that was literally driven to suicide by her own community (which ironically no one addresses). All the while saying he is in some way damaged from this, when he is still selling out ALL his shows. Or my personal favorite, them accusing him of "white privilege" which I am still trying to figure out how that works. Otherwise, your judgement of the context may be affected. This is the context I'm talking about. That is why he is just saying that "you might as well calling me a TERF" because he will give his opinion on the matter. When he called himself a transphobic, it is the same thing. Just because he makes jokes about the LGBTQ does not mean he is a homophobe. Just because he makes jokes about transgenders doesn't make him a transphobic. Yet, after Sticks and Stones, people are accusing him of being a transphobic. He is being sarcastic in calling himself transphobic, because that is what he is being accused of. When he said he pushed Daphne when she hugged him, and said "Boundaries Bitch!", and said because he is transphobic, I don't think he really pushed Daphne and said that. It is a joke because it is what a transphobic will do, and all that is sarcasm. It is the same when he called himself transphobic the other time when Daphne showed herself before the show looking really pretty. What it meant was Daphne looked really pretty that even a transphobic person would appreciate her. Closer is more of a criticism of cancel culture and threatening the creative freedom of comedians like him. He calls her by the wrong pronoun repeatedly and feels justified in this because she wouldn't have given a damn about something like that. He make a lot of theories, including that "trans twitter" was responsible for her killing herself, not once mentioning that the same platform where the alleged dragging happened also happens to be an endless loop cesspool of anti-trans rhetoric that she possibly was also subjected to, the same rhetoric that has resulted in countless other trans people he doesn't use to prop himself up as some "good one" to off themselves. He goes into this pitiful, nonsensical story of "empathy" after saying that TERFs look at trans people the same way that Black people probably look at Blackface... and then refers to himself as Team TERF. Lots of people weaponize his words and those like them. One of the things said, to my understanding, was support of Rowling and her words. She was talking about how trans women should be excluded from women only spaces, forcing them into men's spaces (where assault is VERY likely). Rowling was pushing for this to be legally enforced. The thing is, words from a celebrity like this have a tendency to make people think that that celebrity has a point, regardless of anything else (fallacy of appeal to celebrity). Legal issues are formed of public opinion. Look around this comment section. So many people support Chappelle and don't care what he said. That also means that when bills come around people are likely to follow along with, "well I heard about it from X and they thought these people were just being snowflake-cancel-culture-woke twits so I don't care. This won't actually hurt them". But it does. I have been afraid for my life before because of this crap. I have been fired from jobs before because trans people have so little support (and yes, I was fired just for being trans. They literally cited that reason at one point. IT WAS LEGAL TO DO SO at the time).

The way I see it, when Dave made jokes about white people, they weren't threatened or harmed in any way. When he portrayed a dopey white guy with lighter skin on his show, it was just a joke, nobody was subject to harm or a subtle threat. I laughed my butt off. But if you deny people's humanity by saying "gender is a fact" that is different. Its not a joke. You just denied the existence of millions of people who dont fit your idea of gender. Nobody was laughing when he took a step down that rabbit hole. Still like Dave but he missed the boat. Any way its good to have a discussion.
@TheMINDL3SSGamers3 жыл бұрын
@@CheriCampbellnyc nobody is denying their existence. And it’s much more hurtful for a black man to say all my problems are with whites, than it is to say “this is an objective fact” which it IS. SEX IS A SYNONYM FOR GENDER look at ANY DICTIONARY. Just because you say you are something DOESNT MAKE IT TRUE. Now are you more hurt my face saying “gender is a fact” or more hurt by the relentless bullying his trans friend received straight from transgender community? Causing her to kill herself? Cause it didn’t seem like Dave’s words killed her, seemed like her community killed her. Saying your problems are with a particular race is very racist, but the left doesn’t have a problem with that?
