He loves doing this and I love watching him do it. Such perfect technique, It looks like he's not using any effort at all but he easily throws his strongest student. Then he will have another student resist to show that the one he picked really was the strongest student . This surpasses trying to explain the technique so there is no language barrier or misunderstanding possible. I've never experienced anything remotely close to this anywhere else. This is why the uninformed believe that aikido is phony. You cant blame them. He loves to joke about this. He once said "I paid him $50 to fall down." LOL ! And by the way, he has been training continuously for around 60 years and never did any other martial art. In aikido one is suppose to go with the flow but sometime, like in the video here, he will tell you to resist as hard as you can. I've seen him throw guys weighing over 200 (I was one of them) while he weighs only 130 soaking wet. And he makes it look as effortless as in the video above. A true master in every sense of the word.

@@AikiTom76 True. Shuji and Koichi were original students of Uyesheba but Koichi was known to have the strongest ki anyone had seen except for possibly Uyesheba himself. Also true that the philosophy on whether to teach the inner workings of ki to ALL students was hotly contested. This caused divisions within. And when it is taught, It is often taught only to the inner circle after achieving rank. Tohei believed in teaching to all because otherwise, in his own words, "when we die all our knowledge will die with us." Once when Maruyama was explaining a technique and seemed to search for the english word I yelled out "send ki' and was subsequently singled out for questioning and then a rather strong demonstration. The funny part was that I was quoting him from his own teaching years earlier. When he called me out saying "who said that ? Where did you hear that ?" I said "I saw it on tv sensei." The funniest moment in dojo training history. Seems Sensei is scaling back how much ki he teaches. Not sure why but he is of the camp that believes the inner workings should be taught only to ranking members in the inner circle.

You keep saying is a technique, but it is not. You can check yoshinkan aikido they are practicing cultivation of ki, koichi tohei practicing ki development. Morihiro saito sensei also practicing cultivating of ki. It is become a secret nowdays since only earlier shihan teaching it. This ki development/ cultivating makes aikido technique differ with daito ryu aikijujutsu, the inner substance or the inner essence makes the difference, while aikijujutsu manipulate joints using aiki on other hand aikido leading opponent ki using aiki. So when aikijujutsu using their technique it will inflicting pain, contrast with aikido your body will full of energy. This is the true practic of aikido
