The movements from the outside gate are perfect. When moving to the inside gate omit going from under the arm. And use a jut sau or gan sau over the arm to enter the inside gate. Reason I say this is for two reasons if your painting the yin yang diagram with your hands your lower jut sau or gan da is going to paint the opposite side of your vin yang diagram and your rear hand will become the new jut or gan sau on the opposite side. That's point 1. The other reason is when you open the opponent up from the reverse under the arm your fan sau of the opposite side is one less tempo so you essentially give the opponent a advantage. That's number 2. The reason this is important is because the movement over the top is an advantage while the movement under the bottom is a disadvantage. Also there is a reason we learn the under the arm in complex trapping. When you pak da under the arm to the near side of the face the correct counter is a pak from the opposite side which you would bill sau from your far side and make the same pattern. But when you scoop the arm with your outside pak you have made the far side diagram and your next movement would be back to the inside of the same arm. Leaving the opponent a free arm to complete the outside diagram. Just thought I'd throw that out there because the flexible range is a chess game of following the diagram to decrease the advantage of your opponent. When you start from the outside gate with lap da, pak da, switch sides bill sau, lap da, pak da. You complete the diagram. When you replace bil sau with jut sau you transfer sides with lap sau and your tiger hand. Then you have hidden blow and riding blow below and above the arm. You can also use the jut sau forearm to push into your opponent colasps his structure at the elbow and drive him around. And you can gan sau and press or punch to the middle gate or parry the arm down and jut sau to the middle gate and drive the opponent around there also. You can also use your forward da or tiger hand on the side of the face or neck at the upper gate to drive the opponent around also. And you can pull your opponent around with gan and strike push at the lower gate. All within the same system of movements. This is the grinding techniques of flexible range. These same 6 gates have a sequence for point strikes following the yin yang patter and without following the structures to complete the diagram and learning the grinding techniques people get way off the mark. Anyway looks like fun and this guy is amazing all the time. Just thought I'd throw in some theory to make people think.

Better for self defence against an attacker. Not for fighting a trained fighter.
Oh, please... what do you do if someone is actually attacking you, not cooperating? Why does anyone believe this stuff could actually work? Only because they want to believe it ...
@piffplayer4 жыл бұрын
Kung fu is truly effective when your opponent are unskilled or unsuspecting of your ability. It's not really a kumite art. It's a self defense.

Okay...As much as I respect Hung Gar, most of his moves are really out date and would get yourself killed by today's standard of fighting. His "Trigram" stepping to evade punches, his "Yin Yang Hands", his "crane beak" blocking frontal kicks etc etc, is way too slow. His "This is how you win a fight against a strong opponent, sooo simple" may have worked in his time period, but not now.
@jameslim20026 жыл бұрын
Simon2k17 I agree, these moves are created hundred of years ago. But with proper training and modification, they will still work
@RockSClone5 жыл бұрын
I would suggest, these moves are indeed effective when an opportunity presents itself. Not every block, punch, or kick, is effective in every single event. Adapting allows you to find flaws in your opponent, and thus an opportunity to apply.
@innocentram18005 жыл бұрын
Isn't the trigram stepping really just boxing footwork and "crane beak" muay thais kick parry? Those seems to be two of the most effective and popular moves today lolz
