Hamar, NORWAY - 1994 Winter Games, Figure Skating, Pairs' Free Skate - Mandy Woetzel and Ingo Steuer of Germany had to withdraw from competition after a fluke accident where she caught toe-pick in the ice during a pair forward spiral and ended up smashing her chin and chest against the ice.

3:27 I remember this. I also remember reading that she tripped on his skate. No. If you watch at a slow speed it’s clear she tripped on her toe pick.

I remember they did this program at World’s. I don’t know if it was during the competition or exhibition but he carried her off the ice when they finished.

It's just a rules thing. Search Kuchiki and Sand 1991 Skate America for a rough fall where the pair shockingly keeps skating, albeit missing a 45 second chunk of their program. But yes, after a few seconds here, it was clear mandy would not continue. Such haunting music for such a hard, unusual fall

Its too bad because I thought they had the most dynamic program in the Olympics. Haunting music and terrific moves. Many of his moves later were incorporated in his coaching of the German team that won 2 medals. Mandy was so cute and Ingo was so handsome.

Pair skating is definitely dangerous! So how did Katia Gordeeva & Sergei Grinkov make it look so effortless and easy??? The Very BEST Pair of them all ❤️

I remember watching this as a 9 year old... I thought she couldn't breathe, and I knew this was different than other falls because she landed on her stomach and he slayed over her trying not to trip. So terrible.

I think Scot jinxed her. He said, "... she has had 3 concussions..," then she instantly fell. Strange. Glad everyone's OK.

Actually, Scott said she had given him three concussions, then she has a terrible injury. Timing was uh, more than a little coincidental.

Why nobody rushed over to her, leaving it to Ingo to carry her. He could fall too while carrying her and add to the injury. What a shame.
