W123 fuel injector distributor rebuild

Everything is now pointing to the Bosch K Jettronic Fuel Injector Distributor needing a rebuild, the diaphragm wears out so it was time to replace that

These K-tronic fuel distributors are indeed well-known for not working right after sitting for a while. It's just like rebuilding a carburetor after a couple of years sitting. Just needed really. Take the following steps: - Check if you are still getting fuel at the K-tronic unit. - Then check if fuel is spraying out of the injectors after the K-tronic unit. - If so, check the spraying pattern of them. Are they indeed spraying a fine mist of petrol or flooding the engine? - If not, try soaking them a while in a bath of injector cleaner. Then blow then out with air. - Mount them back, check also the fuel pressure on the test line. It could be that there is something (second fuel filter for example) that's blocking the fuel flow.

Hi mate, 1. you can try to direct start by connecting a wire to the starter motor and crank in by touching the positive battery terminal , while the key is on battery. 2. Check for a fuse behind the glove box , its big fuse . If the fuse is bad you face the same issue. 3. Check the gearbox module which Is mounted on the left of the gear box.

Hello just wondering if you got the car going? I just rebuilt my fuel distributor on my w126 and with out me knowing the centre turned when tightening up and it sounded exactly like what’s happening to your Mercedes! Just make sure the mark on the centre chamber (where the distributor plunger is) is lined up with cylinder one outlet!

Hey Matt! Sorry its been years based on your post. I have a same issue but its over fueling. There are sparks, no blockage on the Air lines, replaced the fuel distributor kits, cleaned the WUR, but still having a wet spark plugs and every time i removed the plugs. And start it without the plugs. The fuel burst fron the spark plug holes, looks like it always dripping fuels.

Those Salvox rebuild kits are stupid expensive considering much of the kit is cheaply available orings. The video doesnt show you removing the central piston, so not sure if you realised that the piston holds a very fine filter which these salvox kits dont include despite their high cost. Do you know where replacement filters can be obtained from?

I would recommend priming the distributor by loosening the lines at the top of it and running the fuel pump. I had a similar reluctance to start before I did that

I think that's just diesel, it was gushing fuel from the inlet pipe to the distributor, maybe these need priming though?

I had an old Passat with 5 cylinder and the K Jetronic system. And on those cars you had to connect the air filter housing as the air intake uses a cone shaped plate which is pressure pricise sensitive. So that metal plate moves to provide air....so your car almost want to start, but possibly don't get air. Just a thought. On my car the air filter housing come loose and the car also didn't want to start.....so good luck....hehe. Oh yea check whether the high pressure feul pump is working.....those were real common issues on the VWs....at least in South Africa. Some VW used an in tank pump and some used a lift pump with a secondary pump....not sure how it works on the W123 though....

My w123 230E starts at the first key "cold" forces well but "hot" starts at the 2nd and 3rd longer keys. What do you advise me to check to change? Once started, it runs perfectly

Theres a cold start injector on the injector rail - follow a fuel pipe from the distributor to a connector with an electrical connector (blue I think) - which may be at fault

It was one of your Rover and the MG3 test drive video's I started watching. However I have now watched every single video on this Mercedes in order over the last couple of weeks. This must be very frustrating! I too thought this would have been the answer to your non start. I wonder if the problem still lies with this fuel distributor, maybe something blocked? Maybe have the injectors in a bottle or at least the pipes leading to the injectors in a bottle, and see if fuel continues to flow after initial prime. Its not even coughing which I would think it would do, if it was receiving some fuel when cranking.

Thanks for watching all the way through! Yes its hugely frustrating, but Im sure its the full distributor now, the pressure going in is good but theres nothing at the (new) injectors. Im going to have to rebuild it again, or pay to have it done

Start ya bastard! Gutted. I thought i was going to see life. Might be worth bridging the relay on the fuel pump to get guaranteed fuel to the distributor. I don't think it will need priming as it is purely a regulator not a pump. Check the warm up regulator is working as that affects 'control pressure' going to the distributor. The distributor uses fuel pressure almost like a hydraulic fluid on one side of that diaphragm you changed. Dont give up now!

Matt, what makes the pump in the fuel distributor go up and down? Is that still working? Sorry I've now become clouded over all the videos about the fuel system and may have forgotten if you checked it. Look for mechanical issues now as the car wants to go with easy start but dies when that is burnt. Good luck mate, could see the disappointment in your face and boo hiss to the planned development around your house!

If the fuel pump is working then disconnect the fuel feed to the distributor and run all the old fuel out of the pipes and get some fresh in there.

Are you absolutely sure you have fuel getting to the distributor now. I couldn't hear the fuel lift pump at the back buzzing away when you turned the ignition on the first time so it could be that you've fixed one problem and developed another...

You can hear it inside the car, its a new pump so quiet, the last test before this was to check fuel was getting there and it was gushing out, but Ill check it again.

I really feel for you As this is not making any sense at all. Fuel is getting from the pump to the injector distributor but no further even with a rebuild and the diaphragm creating a vacuum making it hiss. At this point I'd be standing and staring at the car for many hours hoping for inspiration. 10:15 - "I do really wish I'd seen how these came apart" --- That's why you should have a close up cam running 😛 (Says the man who gets the majority of his close up shots out of shot 😂 🤣😂 🤣)

@@furiousdriving Bit weird but ignore that ..... I had inspiration in my sleep last night .... No I wasn't dreaming of you or your car, let's not talk about my dreams .... Anywhoooo ....... The arm you were pulling and pushing on to make the fuel distributor hiss, I'm assuming it attaches to a mechanism on the engine so would open and close the diaphragm based on fuel demand. Is that mechanism working properly? If it's not then wouldn't the diaphragm remain closed so one side the distributor fills with fuel but can't get past it to the injectors? Might be worth a look?
