W124 - Instrument cluster front glass removal - EPIC FAIL 🙄 🤬

Mine keeps fogging up with condensation when it rains. Your problem is sun, mines is rain. Ugh. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I'm stumped as to why there are so few replacement parts made for the W124 - there's more of them on the road than many other older classic cars that are catered for by a ton of specialists and re-made parts. I'm having trouble even getting an exhaust! Come on you classic car businesses - make us some bits!! 🙏🏻

I'm glad I decided to buy a good used cluster housing for my 1990 300TE. Having lived in Queensland for 15 years, it has the dreaded white spot.

Over at Impalaman's Garage, he has some videos of him painstakingly taking a W126 instrument cluster apart and treating the spotting. He has the patience of a saint.

I got lens out of 2 of them 99.5% clean with heat as you did

Mine is just dusty on the inside. Is it possible to clean once removed? Otherwise, the plastic seems in good condition.

That's nuts!!! My W124 cluster (1987 car) still looks fine fortunately. Are there any solvents you can use, like the stuff some phones need when swapping out broken screens.

i bought chrome bisels that go in the circular spots of the dash, like w140 on aliexpress, i'm scary of install them now because of this video jajajajaja

i think those are flexible and you fit them from inside without removing the glas

@@MMWA-DAVE they are plastics, also if i broke my cluster, ¿can i install a cluster with economy needle? my cluster is lack of that option. my w201 190e have economy and looks cool. myw126 also have and even my w140 have too. as you see i have several old benzes, my wife hates me hahahahahahaha

buddy for the chrome bezels you have to uninstall the full gauges and install the bezels from inside the circular gauge gaps.

@@mohammedabood466 That's not what i was trying to do. I wanted to remove the front clear plastic to refurbish the inside, ie strip all the old paint out and repaint it.

Never seen that kind of paint destruction on a 124, is there something special about Australia climate? Maybe some kind of salt effect

Heat and maybe humidity depending on location and how long the car spent outdoors in it's earlier days.

I think is not Humidity because my original w126 cluster looks exactly like that on the video despite my car is from a dry climate place and lived there all its life.

I could probably 3d model and print something, but I'll need a nicer printer than the oneI have. Something that big would take over a day of printing, then another day of sanding and gluing
